DakhaBrakha at Pohoda 2022

DakhaBrakha at Pohoda 2022

After twelve years, a major name in the world of worldmusic, Dakha Brakha, will return from Ukraine to Pohoda 2022. They refer to their work as ethno-chaos. It is a mixture of native Ukrainian folk music with some African-styles, Arab, Bulgarian, and Hungarian motifs, and instruments from around the world. In combination with beautiful polyphony, specific rhythms and atypical, varied instrumentation, they create unique unexpected music. The band was formed as a musical ensemble at the Ukrainian avant-garde theatre Dakh and these roots have left its mark on the band performances and aesthetics oscillating between alternative theatre and folk/world music concerts.  → read more

Pohoda 2022 to be held in full visitor capacity

At the turn of March and April over the past two years, we informed about moving Pohoda for a later date: now we have significantly better news. We have always relied on the opinion of experts, and also this year we continue to consult with our favourite experts, Mária Štefkovičová and Zuzana Krištúfková. Based on our discussion and the fact that almost all restrictions by the Public Health Authority in connection with the covid have been lifted, we are pleased to announce that we will meet at the Trenčín airport in the full Pohoda version. We are preparing the festival in a similar form as in 2019, the capacity remains limited to 30,000 visitors, and, of course, we are working on many new things and improvements. This news was also confirmed by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, which stated that capacity restrictions will not apply to summer festivals. Well, in just 99 days and after three long years, we will see each other again at our best at the Trenčín airport. → read more

Nemoderný chalan: Laco Lučenič and Midi Lidi to give a special concert for Meky Žbirka at Pohoda

Nemoderný chalan: Laco Lučenič and Midi Lidi to give a special concert for Meky Žbirka at Pohoda

The album Nemoderný chalan (the Old-fashioned boy), which was produced by Laco Lučenič and recorded by Meky Žbirka with their band Limit in 1984, seemed like a miracle. The music, arrangements, lyrics, Miro’s singing, cover, graphics, video clips... Everything worked out perfectly, the hitherto popular pop singer started to appeal also to other people outside the mainstream. The record showed the importance of production in music; in this respect it was a ground-breaking work in the history of the Slovak pop music. This daring act was followed by two other albums—Chlapec z ulice and Zlomky poznania. Songs from these albums will open Pohoda 2022 at a special concert, which will be a celebration of Miro Žbirka’s work.  → read more
