Our Michals are now in London at The Green Events & Innovations Conference. Today, Michal Kaščák will be participating in “Taking a Stand: Social Cohesion” panel. Together with gentlemen from Roskilde and 10 000 HOURS Foundation, Michal will be talking about why responsible environmental and societal behavior matter. The panel explores how to react to negative trends and how to take a stand for the right thing. Pohoda CEO than continues at ILMC (International Live Music Conference). On Thursday, he will be guest speaker at the panel focusing on artist fees that rise extremely quickly. The discussion will also tackle the topic of adopting a more sustainable approach within free market. → read more

Eurosonic 2019 focusses on Czech Republic and Slovakia for the first time ever

Eight artists from Slovakia and eight artists from Czechia will get a chance to perform at the next edition of the most prestigious European showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS). Pohoda and other music professionals’ long-time membership in the talent-exchange organizations ETEP (European Talent Exchange Programme) a CEETEP (Central Eastern European Talent Exchange Programme) bears fruit: The next edition of Groningen-based festival will welcome the biggest number of our artists ever. Now it’s artists’ turn who, starting in May, can submit their applications to grasp this unique opportunity. → read more

Yasmine Hamdan

Lebanese singer-songwriter Yasmine Hamdan is great at combining Oriental music with Western influences. As a member of bands Soapkills, Y.A.S. as well as thanks to her solo career she is considered an icon of underground music across the Arab world. She collaborated with CocoRosie, Mirwais (Y.A.S.) and after her excellent debut Ya Nass, she released a follow up album last year named Al Jamilat which BBC included in their “BBC Culture’s Best Albums of 2017” list. At the beginning of July, she is coming to present it to Pohoda 2018 visitors. → read more

Onuka

It’s rare to see a song by band from Eastern Europe that would conquer iTunes electronic charts across western countries on the Old Continent. But this is exactly what the experienced Ukrainian musicians Nata Zhyzhchenko (Tomato Jaws) and Eugene Filatov (The Maneken) achieved with their track “Vidlik” of their new project Onuka. The band fuses contemporary electronic music (house, electro-funk) and folk music played on traditional Ukrainian musical instruments into the so-called folktronica. Their debut conquered Ukrainian iTunes charts. Their tracks “Vidlik” and “Time” have four million views on YouTube each. Onuka won YUNA Music Award (Discovery of the Year) and many other prestigious awards. One of the best contemporary Ukrainian bands is coming to play Pohoda 2018. → read more

Tshegue

Nicolas Dacunha – a child from Parisian suburbs and Kinshasa native Faty Sy Savanet combine everything that formed them personally, culturally as well as musically in project Tshegue. The result is an original mix of tribal singing, rhythms and garage rock. Dance music with dominating guitars, percussion instruments and drums with the original Faty’s vocals on top of it all. As NPR describes in the review of their debut EP Survivor: “every note is of dynamic, pulsing jubilation.” Contagious afropunk of Tshegue is coming to make Pohoda 2018 visitors dance. → read more

tUnE-yArDs at Pohoda 2018

tUnE-yArDs already played our festival in 2014. Full Moon Zine described their gig as “the best and funniest show at Pohoda.” Back then, Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner reaped the rewards of success with their third album Nikki Nack. In January, they released their fourth studio album I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life. We’re glad that we will get to hear their combination of afrobeat, folk and free-jazz as Trenčín Airport is one of the stops on the summer leg of their tour. → read more

Ride

Almost immediately after band’s formation 30 years ago, Ride became one of the defining stars of shoegaze genre. Their albums Going Blank Again and Nowhere still form part of the best of charts within this genre or music of the 90s in general. After a 21-year-long break, they made a comeback with their new album Weather Diaries (2017). Oxford-based four-piece released their latest EP Tomorrow’s Shore just ten days back. According to Pitchfork, “These leftovers from the UK band’s 2017 reunion album successfully position them in a contemporary context alongside peers like Tame Impala and Caribou.” The band that shaped British guitar scene at the beginning of the 90s will be playing Pohoda 2018 as part of their tour. → read more
