Larry Harvey, the man who invented the worldʼs most amazing festival, has passed away
The transformation of the desert into a lively, sparky place full of people who together create a well-functioning and in a way even an ideal community, the concept of gifts instead of sales, complete freedom with respect for others, the celebration of freedom and tolerance: this is what Larry Harvey managed to create with his festival Burning Man. Photos and videos of the festival indeed suggest a lot, but personal experience is crucial in this case. On our way to the festival, we were looking forward to some kind of attractive eccentric celebration. We returned from an event that had a deep philosophical background amazed by creativity and surprised by the nature and ease of the festival. Larry Harvey had previously arrived at Pohoda, with his colleague Marian Goodell they were hosts in Juraj Kusnierikʼs discussion in Dobra Krajina (Good country) tent. Larry and his story are infinitely inspiring; Burning Man is a unique concept on a global scale, real „miracle in the dessert“, what was the name of Larrys debate at Pohoda. When you arrive at the festival, the people at the gates welcome you with words “Welcome home”. Sorrowful as it is, this home will from now on miss the landlord, a great, modest and extraordinary man, Larry Harvey. Thank you for everything, dear Larry.
