We've launched the new website, announced the line-up & three contests for Pohoda in the Air

Already tomorrow night will start the on-line festival Pohoda in the Air. On this occasion, we launched a new version of our website with some features specially designed for the on-line festival. Also, the complete line-up has been announced, as well as three contests for spectators in connection with the festival: a contest for pianists who will welcome the Sun directly in Trenčín, a competition for a tandem jump to the Trenčín airport, and a challenge for all Pohoda fans to send us videos of them watching Pohoda in the Air. → read more

Neuropa at Pohoda in the Air

Neuropa at Pohoda in the Air

After seventeen years of hibernation, band Neuropa will play at Pohoda in the Air. Nine musicians, a five-member wind section, one electronics engineer, one guest. The Freemusic magazine wrote about them in 2000: “Neuropa is the Danube monarchy in a modern guise. Worth mentioning is the relaxed performance of the artists free of any tension. The answer to the Zappa question is: Yes, humour is part of music (and Neuropa is a proof of that).” Neuropa in 2020 are: Peter Kohout (baritone saxophone, bass clarinet), Pavel Poliak (tuba), Tibor Duriak (trumpet), Marcel Majoroš (trombone), Anton Majoroš (French horn), Marek Minárik (double bass, bass guitar), Dano Salontay (guitar), Peter Slameň (drums), Slavo Solovic (electronics), Michal Kaščák (vocals, keyboards) + Braňo Jobus (vocals). → read more

Greeting for Bruce Nauman at Pohoda in the Air

Greeting for Bruce Nauman at Pohoda in the Air

Greeting for Bruce Nauman, or Ilona Németh´s Auditorium, was already at Pohoda twice, it was with us in Groningen during focus on the Slovak music. This time, it has been installed directly at the airport runway, through which usually the majority of our visitors pass when Pohoda takes place. The artwork thus gets another meaning. The installation will serve more purposes – it will host a debate, a concert and a performance. Greeting to Nauman is the only physical artwork, which will be installed this year at the empty Trenčín airport. → read more

The Wilderness at Pohoda in the Air

The Wilderness at Pohoda in the Air

The Wilderness – real evidence that punk at its best is not dead – will perform at Pohoda in the Air. Brilliant lyrics, excellent music and uncompromising attitudes are the reasons why The Wilderness rank among the principal bands on the Slovakian music scene. Their video for the song "Čo s tým hnevom" (also created at Pohoda 2018), was described as the Video of the Year by Slovak music portal Hudba.sk. In recent months, they have recorded new songs that will be released on a joint record with the English band Active Minds. → read more

Zohra at Pohoda in the Air

Zohra at Pohoda in the Air

The opening day of the Pohoda in the Air festival will also include the first Afghan women's orchestra—Zohra, which excelled at Pohoda 2019. As there are strict measures in place in the country, the orchestra will not play together, but several of its members have sent us their musical greetings. Their last yearʼs concert and the following Slovakia tour perhaps best illustrated the importance of freedom for art as well as the contribution of art to freedom. That is why, instead of the classic documentary about Pohoda, we made the film Orchestra from the Land of Silence. Film director Lucia Kašová shot it at the concerts of the orchestra. You can watch the concert of Zohra, the documentary, as well as the subsequent discussion on the topic of freedom, human rights, and gender equality in Afghanistan already on Thursday evening.   → read more

Contest: welcome the Sun on the piano during Pohoda in the Air

Contest: welcome the Sun on the piano during Pohoda in the Air

In the Pohoda in the Air line-up, three “visitors” will have the chance to perform. Just as welcoming the Sun is an integral part of our festival, so are also “street musicians” playing the pianos at the Pohoda venue. We would like to bring both of these traditions also to Pohoda in the Air, which is why we are calling this contest for pianists. Below this post, upload a comment with a video of you playing the piano (it can be anything, your own work, a cover version...). From all the videos, we will then select the dozen with the largest number of likes. A professional jury composed of pianist Lucie Chuťková, Dorota Nvotová, and Braňo Jobus will then choose from them three winners who will play live at Pohoda in the Air (during welcoming the Sun on Saturday morning). You can upload your videos in comments from now until 11:59 pm, Wednesday 8th July. → read more
