Footage of Fulu Miziki show at Pohoda on the Ground

The Pohoda on the Ground festivals were perhaps best reflected by the concerts of the band Fulu Mizki. A relaxed atmosphere, a great dose of creativity, improvisation, collaboration, a lot of energy and many other positive attributes could be mentioned to describe this tireless band from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Fulu Miziki use waste to create original masks, costumes and musical instruments, in which they are constantly discovering new sound possibilities. Under the varied visual-performative execution of the concert and afro-futurist masks lays a strong pan-African message of peace and a reference to the bad ecological situation in their home country and around the world. → read more

Floating Points at Pohoda 2022

Floating Points at Pohoda 2022

Another reconfirmed great name of Pohoda 2022 is Floating Points. London producer Sam Shepherd (who, by the way, has a Ph.D. in neuroscience) has been recording under this stage name since 2008. In March 2021, he released the album Promises, which took five years to record and which features the ingenious jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra. This masterpiece already deservedly appears in the preliminary selections of the best albums of the year, which The Quietus describes as follows: "It astonished ... It is a celebration of sound at its finest and most pure: from the smallest scratch to cathartic crescendos, from spiralling improv to contemplative silences. Every note, whisper, bleep, and shift is significant. It is marvellously multifaceted but never obnoxious: a refreshing, one-of-a-kind conversation between jazz, classical, and electronic." → read more

Wooze at Pohoda 2022

Wooze at Pohoda 2022

Another re-confirmed name for Pohoda 2022 is the British-Korean duo Wooze. With their amazing shows as well as special collaborations the festival was definitely not short of (for instance, they welcomed Dry Cleaning’s Florence Shaw on stage to play Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” cover together) and with the way they had fun during other bands’ concerts, this band stole our hearts at Pohoda on the Ground. In the summer, they contributed to the compilation of cover tracks of The Strokes’ legendary album Is This It. A few days back, Wooze released their second EP Get Me to a Nunnery. According to Dork magazine, the EP “supersedes expectations, examining what the 80s’ would look like today”. DIY adds Wooze “have set their stall on crafting a stylish and riveting brand of indie-disco, and they have achieved just that”.  → read more

Black Midi at Pohoda 2022

Black Midi at Pohoda 2022

Another confirmed name of Pohoda 2022 is Black Midi.In late June 2019, they released their debut Schlagenheim, which brought them a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize and fantastic reviews. According to Paste magazine, the album is: “experimental, genre unclassifiable, extremely noisy with exceptional results. Schlagenheim is much more than just special, it is the only one of its kind - a masterpiece.” At the end of May this year, they released their second album called Cavalcade and it has already been included in the selection of the top albums of the year by magazines such as NME, SPIN, Stereogum, and many others. NME wrote that with this album, one thing confirmed is that they’re miles beyond the flash-in-the-pan buzz band, it’s certain that they’re here to stay, and their intense fire shows no danger of burning out. Under the Radar add that it’s hard to imagine any rock album this year beating Cavalcade in pure genius. We do believe that we will read similar reactions also after their concert at Pohoda 2022. → read more

Murman Tsuladze at Pohoda 2022

Murman Tsuladze at Pohoda 2022

We could compile odes from the reactions of the people who saw a Murman Tsuladze concert, or quote various media... But perhaps this time will be sufficient the fact that we begged this French-Georgian band after Pohoda on the Ground to extend their stay in Slovakia and play at our internal afterparty #hairsaloononstage #improvizedjacuzzi #weddingscammers #frenchafrogeorgianelectropop. And so it may not come as a surprise (and we believe that many will be pleased) that Murman Tusladze will make dance the crowd at the Trenčín Airport also at Pohoda 2022. → read more

Black Country, New Road at Pohoda 2022

Black Country, New Road at Pohoda 2022

The London band Black Country, New Road is another re-confirmed name of Pohoda 2022. The British newspaper The Times desribes them as the most exciting new band of 2021 and compares their sound klezmer band who got booked to play a rave by mistake or as an anarchic take on contemporary classical. Lucke Cartegle from NME gave the highest possible rating to the album, emphasizing that although it's just six tracks long, the album is bursting with ideas. At the end of the review, he adds: “Their peak may be years away yet, but this is still some of the most exciting music you’ll hear until then; I’m not sure what more you could ask of a debut."   → read more
