Gypsy Band Lomnické Čháve will welcome the sun and present the pre-release of the documentary Kapela (the Band)

Do you know which band invented their name for Pohoda? It was Gypsy Band Lomnické Čháve! First, they gave a concert here as musicians from the film All My Children; they returned a year later while filming a document about themselves—and as they were included in the official programme, they needed a name. Already named Gypsy Band Lomnické Čháve, they filled up and made sweat the NAY dance house at Pohoda 2017. This year, they are coming with a finished documentary by Ladislav Kaboš named Kapela (the Band), and we will screen the film in the world premiere on Saturday night in Optimistan. Later, on Sunday morning, the band will perform the traditional welcoming the sun on the main stage. “Guys have prepared songs that characterize their emotions and love for music and dance. The concert will begin with a violin improvisation and after the sunrise, they will launch the genuine energetic dance to say goodbye to Pohoda 2018 and its visitors,” said the bandʼs manager Tomáš Slebodník about the upcoming concert. In the case of this Gypsy band, some things just cannot be described by words, they must be experienced. This will be a great concert closure of Pohoda 2018. → read more

B-Complex + Vladimír 518 Show

B-Complex + Vladimír 518 Show

B-Complex is a Slovak producer and a DJ who has become popular outside Slovakia especially with her compositions released under the label Hospital Records. She has played millions of streams of tracks and has given countless performances in Europe and beyond. In addition to making great music, Matia is also a Pohoda counsellor: we discuss the dance scene together. Last year, she enriched her show with a dragon dance performance, and we can start looking forward to it also this year... and it will be bigger, better, and wilder! Matia is joining forces with a Czech hip-hop legend, a member of PSH, the founder of the BigBoss label, a graffitist, a set designer, and a producer, Vladimír 518. They will showcase his rap and repertoire, as well as new tracks and remixes, in this unusual formation on Saturday night. They wrote in the description of the show: “Together, against hatred and in all colours of the rainbow.” → read more

Performances at Pohoda 2018: TISO, Přes ploty (Through Fences,) Folklore not War, Gypsy Boxer and Kilometer-Long Dance.

Performances at Pohoda 2018: TISO, Přes ploty (Through Fences,) Folklore not War, Gypsy Boxer and Kilometer-Long Dance.

A theatrical adaptation of correspondence between a man who was born in a concentration camp and a young “national socialist”. The centenary of the end of WWI captured in a play where notes of our great-great-great-grandparents from 1914 alternate with diary excerpts from the city of Rakka occupied in 2017. A monodrama about a boxer champion who was murdered in a concentration camp because of his gypsy origin and awarded the title 70 years after he won it. An unforgettable performance TISO we will dedicate to its original protagonist, the actor and legend Marián Labuda. The exceptionally powerful performances within Pohoda 2018 theatrical program will be complemented by kilometers of dance at the Trenčín airport site performed by the figures of the contemporary dance scene. → read more

Peal

Peal

Mišo Peal is another interesting figure in the local electronic music scene to perform at Pohoda 2018. You may remember him from nowadays non-existent cult vinylshop Records. He has been included in various dance and non-dance events, has been performing in Bratislavaʼs Subclub for many years, but he is mainly a DJ. The youngest of the old ones, partly in the world of standard and dynamic banging techno, partly in new alternative spheres marked with EBM and other types of electronic music. That is why he, one of the few, appears at both classical techno evenings and at events with experimental music as well. In about 15 years of activity, he has really appeared in many places, including in the Berlinʼs Tresor. Last year, he rolled his show like a king on the Laug Techno Bau stage after the Schwefelgelb concert, so we moved him this year to the SLSP arena. → read more

Tolstoys at Pohoda 2018

Tolstoys at Pohoda 2018

Tolstoys won the Debut of the Year Award at the current Radio Heards for the album “Botanika”. The unmistakable voice and sensitive expression of the singer Ela Tolstová, in combination with the melancholic indie-pop melodies, precise rhythm section, and interesting arrangements (violin, piano, and samples) quickly won a lot of fans. We discovered them basically coincidentally when they were playing in Ráno na eFemku radio show, only a few minutes before we were going to announce Solange. It is no coincidence, however, that after last yearʼs Pohoda, Pohoda Party concerts, showcases Bush, Ment, Nouvelle Prague, and Eurosonic, Tolstoys will play also at Pohoda 2018. → read more

Nvmeri at Pohoda 2018

Nvmeri at Pohoda 2018

Only two names from the Slovak scene received two criticsʼ awards in Radio Head_Awards: Jana Kirschner and Nvmeri. Nvmeri previously won this award in the same formation as now (Pišta Královič, Palo Javorník and Miro Tuchyňa) under the name “The Uniques”; they received the second award only a few months ago at the tenth edition of the “Radio Heads” for the album I don't think so. Hudba.sk wrote about the album: “The result is an original sound that no other Slovak bands have—the sound of world music (another cliché, but in the case of Nvmeri, it is 100% true) with a significant influence of old and current black music.” The album was premiered live and publicly release at last yearʼs Pohoda and we are delighted to be able to hear fantastic songs such as “Art Of The Trial”, “Blue Church”, “Dynamite” and “Short Of Oxygen” also at the 22nd edition of the festival.    → read more
