Ventolin at Pohoda 2019

Ventolin at Pohoda 2019

Ventolin – Live electronic music project, one-man-box band with an extremely entertaining live show will perform at Pohoda 2019 too. Throughout the day David Doubek, aka Ventolin, lectures on cultural anthropology at Charles University, at night he entertains people at gigs. During the decade on the scene, he’s become one of the most sought-after electronic producers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He uses old samplers, analogue synthesizers, and archaic drum machines in his performances. He is a lover of the primitive sound of the Detroit techno and the Italian and Indian 80s disco. In 2009, he released the EP mihanie, in 2012 the album Totem, in 2015 he returned with the EP Playboura and two years ago he released the album Vitajte. That is, according to Hudba.sk, a meticulous musical retro full of electronic toys with topical texts, which also contain quite a bit of philosophy. At the same time, it’s undoubtedly an extraordinarily entertaining record, which is being played in the Pohoda office more and more often. → read more

The Wilderness at Pohoda 2019

The Wilderness at Pohoda 2019

Guitarist and singer Denis Bango is a genius, a guitar destroyer, a phenomental pianist and a great curator who has been picking bands for our Garage for the second year in a row. Just recently, they released their first video for the song "Čo s tým hnevom" (also created at Pohoda 2018 with a guest from Pussy Riot), which Hudba.sk described as the Video of the Year. At the beginning of the year, they played in one of the biggest venues in the centre of Groningen, De Drie Gezusters, at the alternative Eurosonic event, becoming the most discussed band of the Slovak expedition to ESNS. In two months they’ll perform at Pohoda again, this time at Budiš stage after midnight. → read more

Faktická poznámka

Faktická poznámka

Faktická poznámka came into being in 2002 as an anarchopunky excuse for drinking in a garage. The band, however, gradually ended after a short time. Since there’s never enough suffering in the world, the two surviving members of the original band got an excellent idea to restore the original craziness in 2017. After a year and a half spent rehearsing in a new line-up (Narko, Mates), Faktická poznámka decided to go back to dirty pubs and they’ll present their "classic bungler punk" in our Garage in two months. → read more

Absolútna nula

Absolútna nula

The Trnava band -273,15 aka Absolútna nula came into existence in Kubík’s (club in Trnava) mouldy basement sometime in 2018. It’s based on other projects such as Coco Bongo or Pod altánkom, but in this version it is, according to band’s answers in the interview for Piunkgen, "faster, more primitive, more punky and musically more boorish ”. Briefly – drums, bass and echo singing, no ambitions, no equipment, just tough poses and pastry veganism. As they say about themselves, "If you don't know us, you’re not missing out. Absolútna nula (absolute zero).” The Garage curator Denis Bango adds: “Punk as fuck. These boys are the proof that punk in Slovakia has moved into the 21st century in the past eight years, but it has also done so with the respect and reference to "traditional" punk obscurity and the fact it’s unbearable for the masses.” → read more

Pokora

Pokora

Another representative in the Garage from the East is Košice nowave/postpunk/free punk band Pokora. It consists of friends enthusiastic for the same thing, Richard & Jany & Raptor (Raptor Koch), and just like Raptor and Vojdi they belong to the label Nepohoda. They define themselves as a band from Košice prairie of boredom – there are no money, but there are emotions. Recently, they played at Žižkovská noc, and shortly before the gig Fullmoonzine wrote about them: "At the same time, they bring unusual humour which can only come from a country where Bez ladu a skladu grew up." → read more

7 minút strachu

7 minút strachu

Noisecore band 7 minút strachu will also play at Pohoda. They’ve played 111 concerts and released 77 records with labels from around the world, mostly on tapes and vinyls. In addition to Central Europe they also played in America, Japan and South Korea. Their line-up includes drums, bass, sew and screamo. In their own words, they play classic haraam merzb'n roll mixed with Ulaanbaatar freejazz. Before their gig in Kubík, Consumeanddie collective wrote aptly about them: "Who released the most songs, separate albums and destroyed the most eardrums in Slovakia? These guys. 7 minutes in their name are not just for fun. They really play for 7 minutes. They can't do it longer, because no one would survive." → read more
