The 1975, the winners of Brit Awards for the best British band and the NME Awards for the Best Live band will play at Pohoda 2019. They have never been short of fans, as evidenced by the fact that each of their albums reached top sales in the British chart. Initially, however, they struggled to find their way to music critics. Rolling Stone gave their first album two stars out of five, and NME awarded them a prize for the worst band. As for the second album, both of the aforementioned media ranked it first in their year-ending charts. NME even marked their latest “A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships” as OK Computer for the millennials and gave it a 10/10 review. It was also granted approval of The Daily Telegraph, The Times, Skinny, DIY and The Q, and it also got into Best New Music category of the Pitchfork magazine. In addition to Lewis Cappaldi, who was recently nominated for the Critics' Choice of the prestigious Brit Awards for 2019, the Bastille concert in Bratislava will feature also Scottish songwriter ONR (read as honour), which is the artistic name of Robert David Shields. Nate Albert (Vice President of Capital Records for A & R, who has worked with names such as Weeknd and Florence and the Machine) said about their first encounter two years ago: “It is absolutely crazy to discover, out of the blue, someone playing at this high level”.  It is not surprising that ONR recently released the single “Jericho”, “5 Years Time”, “AMERICAN GODS”, and “LOVE IN SUBURBIA” with this label. Before he started using name ONR, he played in the band Finding Albert and wrote music for films and TV programmes of channels like Sky Sports. The Village Voice said that he is the latest export item of the Scottish scene, and his musically vital songs with a slightly dystopic touch sound like a perfect day of a totally bad year.     → read more

This year's European Festival Awards (EFA) shortlists were dominated by the Danish Roskilde and the Polish Open'er with four nominations. They are followed by the festivals Pohoda, Sziget, Exit, Wacken and Mladí Ladí Jazz, which won two EFA shortlist nominations. Pohoda was once again nominated in The Take a Stand Award category, and for the second time, Michal Kaščák found himself among the ten influential personalities of the European music business in The Award for Excellence and Passion category.   → read more

The Brighton band Penelope Isles will appear at Pohoda 2019. “When Penelope Isles started playing at the London IFF conference presenting promising artists from big agencies, I wanted to leave after the first song. But I liked the second, loved the third one, and after their fourth piece I knew that we wanted to have this band at Pohoda. Pohoda 2019 will feature one of the best hip-hop bands ever, the legendary The Roots. Their live performances are considered the best in this genre, but due to their duties in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they are quite an exclusive thing to experience. They only regularly play at The Rooots Picnic festival hosted by them in native Philadelphia. Fortunately, it takes place every year in June! So Questlove, Black Thought and the band will be able to showcase their organic hip-hop jazz also at the Trenčín airport. → read more

Almost 120 artists, journalists, and music professionals from Slovakia will travel as partners of Eurosonic Noorderslag to Gröningen, Netherlands, to attend this biggest European showcase festival. The group is part of the focus of the festival on the music from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. ESNS finalized its line-up, which includes 319 names, a few days ago, with Czech and Slovak Focuses providing 11 artists from the Czech Republic and 10 from Slovakia. They will be given the opportunity to address with their performances 4,000 music professionals and representatives of 400 European festivals attending this cultural event of European significance every year. Our music will be talked about also in various conference panels. In addition to music, we will bring visual installations to the Netherlands from well-known Slovak artists as well as our own stage—Garáž stage—that will feature several Slovak and Czech artists. For the fifth time, we will bring great bands and interesting debates to the Night shelter of St. Vincent de Paul, as a part of the event titled Doma Dobre (Well at Home). The aim of the concerts is to point out the issue of living without home directly in a place that is often the only chance for over a thousand people to survive winter. The main star of this year will be the Dutch ska-rock band Bazzookas, who won the hearts of our attenders at Pohoda in 2016 and 2018 with their pop-up concerts in their school bus. They also lived up to their reputation and exceptional approach when they did not hesitate and agreed on performing at the Doma Dobre concert, refusing any royalty (with the addition, that everything that is collected from the volunteer admissions goes to the people in need). The concert will be opened by our most successful reggae group, Medial Banana, after then Katka Máliková with the band will perform. She dominated the 9th Radio_Head Awards and she represented Slovakia at Eurosonic at the beginning of the year. On Sunday, December 9th, in the low-threshold dormitory of St. Vincent de Paul, a discussion about homelessness will take place, featuring the founder of Depaul Slovakia, Juraj Barát, the current director Jozef Kákoš and the Mayor of Bratislava, Matúš Vallo. The event also includes exhibitions of photos and video projections, and a novelty will be a children's play area with an interactive performance "About a Boy Who Sought the Smell of Chocolate".
