Pohoda among Top 10 festivals with the best line-up at European Festival Awards

Pohoda among Top 10 festivals with the best line-up at European Festival Awards

Pohoda is the only medium-sized festival to be among the 10 festivals with the best line-up in Europe. This was decided by a panel of music industry experts. “This nomination can be considered a miracle. I am proud that our foreign colleagues and experts take note of our approach to programme production and appreciate its quality. Thank you to everyone who helped us with the programme,“– said Michal Kaščák about the nomination. In addition to Pohoda, the list includes only events of the "heaviest weight category" with much greater capacity and, especially, a greater budget, such as Glastonbury, Primavera, Sziget, Rock Werchter or metal Wacken Open Air. It is a great honour and satisfaction for us to be in this list. Moreover, this has been the third nomination in the last four years. Pohoda is traditionally also in the wider nomination in the Best Medium Festival category. → read more

Kokoroko – top-class London afrobeat at Pohoda 2020

Kokoroko – top-class London afrobeat at Pohoda 2020

In early 2018, Gilles Peterson's Brownswood record label released a compilation of contemporary London jazz bands We Out Here. The selection is clearly dominated by the poetic song "Abusey Junction" by until then a relatively unknown band Kokoroko. It immediately skyrocketed and now it has 34 million views on YouTube. Earlier this year, they released an eponymous EP which was also brought to attention by The Guardian. Another name of Pohoda 2020 is a real gem of the afrobeat genre – the London all-star band Kokoroko. → read more

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs at Pohoda 2021

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs at Pohoda 2021

Pohoda 2021 will also feature the British band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (or PIGSx7, if you like). The band combines acid-rock and psych-metal, while their songs are dominated by hammerblow-like drums and thick riffs that transforms into an "uplifting and inviting barrage of hedonistic abandon". Last year, they released the album Kings of Cowards which, according to Loud & Quiet, was designed to blow your speakers. The Crack magazine said the recording is akin to bottling hellfire and The Guardian subsequently included them in their selection of bands to follow. So we followed them afterwards and they seconded the odes to their music at the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival. You will be able to see their concert thanks to our participation in the European Talent Exchange Program. → read more

Wooze at Pohoda 2020

Wooze at Pohoda 2020

Pohoda 2020 will also feature the British-Korean duo Wooze. The band describe themselves as pansori for the 21st century (a traditional Korean music genre) or baroque'n'roll. Our graphic designer and curator Tereza Maco saw Wooze live in Soul and said about them the following: "If the band DEVO was called futuristic art rock, then Wooze is metamodernist pansori, all nice and sweaty in the K-pop raincoat ". The quote may need an explanatory dictionary, but the joy of their performance needs nothing... All you need to do is come to Pohoda 2020. → read more

Hatari – Icelandic techno-dystopia at Pohoda 2020

Hatari – Icelandic techno-dystopia at Pohoda 2020

Icelandic industrial-techno-punk-rock formation Hatari is another confirmed name of Pohoda 2020. The band got the attention due to their impressive performance at Iceland Airwaves and Eurosonic. Shortly thereafter, they won the national competition Söngvakeppnin 2019 which enabled them to qualify for the final of Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv. Their participation at Eurovision was a big surprise and they fitted into the kitsch freak show perhaps only with their eccentric costumes. The name of the band translates as "haters", which characterizes the basic paradigm of the band – they respond to the dystopic tendencies of the consumer world with harsh criticism of capitalism while wearing sadomasochistic outfits.   → read more
