Pohoda 2017 will also have the German-American duo White Wine, which includes Joe Haege, the author of film music and member of bands Tu Fawning and 31Knots. He, at his travels on tours, would spend some of his free time composing synth-punk tunes and beats on his laptop. He was touring also with bands Dodos and Menomena, and it was the sound engineer in of the latter one Fritz Brückner to start working with Haege on his “musical notes from the road”. According to the Berlin website Pop-Kultur, Whote Wine is the type of budding band that you hesitate to book because they might shine brighter than big names. → read more

Tomorrow we’ll see if we are the winners of festival Oscars: Arthur Awards

Today, ILMC (International Live Music Conference) has started in London. The conference also features Arthur Awards. The shortlist of six nominees for the music industry’s equivalent of Oscars, which is regarded as the most prestigious award within music world, features Pohoda along with festivals Isle of Wight, Lollapalooza Berlin, Paléo Festival Nyon, Rock Werchter and British Summertime Hyde Park. The nominations were decided by a committee of 100 music professionals and the destiny of the 6 nominees will be decided by a voting pool of 4,000 personalities, festival directors, managers, agents, promoters, ticketing companies representatives as well as music journalists. The winners of the latest two editions of Arthur Awards were Rock am Ring (2015) and Rock Werchter (2014). Keep your fingers crossed for us. → read more

Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. used several stage names until he decided to perform as a rapping troublemaker Mykki Blanco. Last year, she released her debut album Mykki, which is according to The Wire, “one of the hardest and most consistent recent statements in US hip hop.” The rave reviews from MixMag, Guardian or Pitchfork confirm the ever increasing quality of her work. From early childhood on, Austra lead singer Katie Stelmanis’s interest was in classical music; she was influenced by electronic and dance music and even formed a riot grrl band. All these influences are combined in the dreamy synthpop band Austra, with its lead singer’s trademark warble standing out. Since the release of their debut, the band have won critics’ favor. Pitchfork, for instance, gave all three albums more than 7 out of 10 points. In January, they released album Future Politics, where they are on the lookout for brighter future. One of the bright aspects of near future is that Austra will be playing Pohoda 2017. → read more

Quick flamenco enhanced with rock and heavy metal made the duo Rodrigo y Gabriela one of the most popular Mexican bands. It was the interesting combination of Latino music and harder music genres that made them beat the greats such as Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash in the Irish charts after the release of their eponymous album. They participated in the soundtracks of the Pirates of the Caribbean, series Breaking Bad, and fairy tale Puss in Boots; they also played in the White House.
