Pohoda 97: Auktyon

Pohoda 97: Auktyon

Phantasmagoric band Auktyon from Saint Petersburg appeared at the first edition of Pohoda by a lucky chance and their gig was an amazing experience. After city stadium, they played incredible shows at Pod Sokolicami area (1999, 2001) and now they will be debuting at the airport. The band created such a unique style that the age doesn’t affect them. If by any chance it does, it’s only in a positive way: they are as crazy, bizarre and exceptionally creative as before. Their mix of avant-garde, jazz, traditional music and absurd drama still works like clockwork. If you would like to find out why they became a discovery twenty years back, go see their gig as part of the Pohoda 97 project. → read more

Baloji

Baloji

Baloji, a Belgian rapper with origins in Congo, mixes African world music with hip-hop, rap, French chanson, soul, funk, jazz, and electronic music. Articles and reviews in BBC, The Guardian, El Pais, The Telegraph, and The Independent confirm that his mixture works well; the last of the listed newspaper said his second album was “the most vivid, consistent, and vigorous African hip-hop album since K'naan times of Dusty Foot Philosopher”. Baloji will play at Pohoda Cool 2017. → read more

IDLES – wild post punk from Bristol

IDLES – wild post punk from Bristol

These hipsters wearing some serious outfits won’t offer you organic-fair-trade coffee in a warm cup. They’ll make your heart beat faster in a different way: via wild post punk full of passion, fear, rage, euphoria and a motley of emotions processed through amps, effects and hands of five guitar lumberjacks from Bristol. BBC, Louder Than War, The Line of Best Fit or Annie Mac all agree it would be hard to find a band with wilder and more frenetic music to offer. Visitors at our festival don’t have to look any further as IDLES are the latest confirmed name for Pohoda 2017. → read more

Acid Arab – oriental house from Paris

Acid Arab – oriental house from Paris

Parisian duo Acid Arab play acid house inspired by melodies and rhythmic structures of oriental music that causes people to fall into a trance. They play Eastern music on analogue rhythmic and bass boxes and create oriental acid, which is a fusion of cold techno, emotions and drama-charged orient. According to Pitchfork, their album Acid Arab Collections “is among the most enthusiastic collections of any sort of dance music to come out in recent memory.” The faves of BBC’s DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson will be playing Pohoda 2017.   → read more

Benjamin Clementine

Benjamin Clementine

It is not customary for a homeless English street musician from the Paris underground to conquer French festivals. It is not customary for a debut of an unknown artist to receive the rating of 8 out of ten from newspapers such as The Observer and The New York Times. It is not customary for a budding artist to win the Mercury Prize and leave behind names such as Florence + the Machine, Aphex Twin, and Jamie XX. But it is a good practice for Mercury Prize winners to play at Pohoda. We are therefore honoured to announce that Benjamin Clementine will perform at the Trenčín airport. → read more
