Theatre at Pohoda 2022

"This year’s selection of theatrical performances at Pohoda reflects the situation we’re finding ourselves in Slovakia and Europe. All of the plays and performances are intended to turn into healing medicine. Some rough examinations will be followed by laughter through tears and the gravity of freedom," says the curator of the Pohoda theatre, director Alžbeta Vrzgula.

Slzy Janka Borodáča: Moral insanity
Do you want to know who’s responsible for your failures and everything that’s happening? Come along and you’ll surely find someone who’s guilty. We’re spitting around, pointing our fingers. It’s  always someone else’s fault. That’s us, the Slovaks, the pigeon nation that never gets the upper hand because of the others. This state of mind overgrows into Moral Insanity. Petr Brajerčík’s monodrama, directed by Júlia Rázusová and inspired by Umberto Ecco’s “The Prague Cemetery”, examines conspiracy theories, anti-Semitic and racist ideas that build on unfavourable economic and social situation and their reflection in the media and politics. It is a candid reflection – a very witty one with an impressively built atmosphere. Come and have a laugh at our own limits or shed some tears over the patch of cabbageheads that’s going to grow up on the Pohoda airstrip.

PiNKBUS
PiNKBUS is a full-out show inspired by the tradition of Czech cabarets and variety shows. The authors react to the global upsurge of drag culture that has long ago spread beyond the LGBT community. The underground queer scene will join forces with established artists in this composition curated by choreographer and performer Martin Talaga. Wild lipsync and vogue, games with pop-cultural myths, a dense influx of energy, which will boost the audience for the long second night of the festival. All this will be brought by divas, or more precisely Divas that you need to see.
Optimistan, Friday, 21.40 - 22.40

Uhol_92: Apokabaret
Apokabaret by the Uhol_92 independent theatre carries on the theme of lifestyle diseases and their  diagnostics. Shortly before the apocalypse, the last specimen of its kind meet at a bar somewhere in Eastern Europe: Hedgehog, Frog, Rabbit, Rainworm and Drone. Everyone will have to undergo a compulsory healing retreat and procreation in the name of saving civilization. However, some have different plans... Will they embark together Noah’s Ark of the third millennium?
The bitter-funny cabaret with live synth-pop music with a genre-diverse approach reflects the ecological threats of the near future and comments with relieving humour on the civilization ailments we indulge in together.
EUrópa stage, Friday, 10.00 - 11.00

WELCOME TO STUPIDITY – sad street show
Who is going to save the world? An irredeemable Saviour and a simple Garbage man. They’ve decided so. They’ll present situations full of gags in this non-verbal street show combining music and motion. hey will take you through a dynamic story starting with a blind amazement with a new visionary, through an unexpected threat to sobering up from blind following others through the use of reason. The occurrence of (un)ordinary human stupidity and its irrational manifestations may have tragic consequences. Will there be anyone who will save us from the next Saviour? Samo Marec wrote about the play: “To die due to one’s own stupidity is a right.” WELCOME TO STUPIDITY!

In the performance of Jana Mikitková and Ján Fakla, a new international pair of comedians and performers met for the first time and found mutual understanding both on the acting and human level: Pavol Seriš (aka the plasticine man) and Tomislav Koprivčević (aka the multi-music-man). The production is suitable for all ages, ideally for kids over 8 years of age.

L+S Theatre: Contrabass

The monodrama tells the story of a double bass player who will never set the tone in an orchestra. Like most of us... With him, you will experience an evening full of tension, doubts, humour, and big twists. For a moment, he will let us into the most secret corners of the human soul, for a moment we will hold our breath so that we can immediately breathe a sigh of relief and maybe even smile.

“Martin Huba is a brave and great man. I’ve seen The Double bass many times, it always entertained me from the beginning to the end. It was my dream to have him at Pohoda; this became true first in 2006, when Martin Huba brilliantly performed the play in the Teatro Tatro tent. He will now act in a beautiful wooden tent. I am extremely looking forward to it,” said Michal Kaščák about the performance.
