The Venopian Solitude
An experimental electro-pop phenomenon from Malaysia – The Venopian Solitude – will also come to Pohoda 2019. The band has performed at Sonar, Fusion and Montreal RBMA festivals. Ten years ago, it was a solo project of an extremely productive artist performing under the pseudonym Suiko Takahara. At first she released a huge amount of her work on the website thesixtyone (approximately one EP per week), later on Bandcamp and Youtube. There she got the attention of people and media from various parts of the world (she was praised by Red Bull and Time Out, for example) thanks to her unconventional melodies and original choice of instrumentation.

Soon the solo project became a full-fledged band which released the debut "Hikayat Perawan Majnun" (Tales of a Lunatic Damsel) in 2014. The album was nominated for three Anugerah Industri Muzik (Malaysian Grammy) awards for Best Album, Arranging and Video. Two band members also won the Best Hip-Hop Song award (Janji). Then there were many performances in Malaysia but also in other countries of Southeast Asia, and the band soon attracted promoters from Europe and North America. For instance, last summer they played at Sonar in Barcelona or the Fusion Festival in Germany and three of their songs were used in the documentary film Shirkers, which won the Sundance Festival award.
