The Doma dobre festival to take place online, the problems of the homeless remain in the real world

The 7th edition of the Doma dobre festival will offer the most varied programme so far. It will offer the music of Dorota Nvotová, Katarzia, Fero Király, Funny Fellows with guests, and Ivan Šiller. The festival will also include dance, literature and debates. You can watch the festival on Sunday, 13th December from 2 pm in a live stream on the YouTube channel and Facebook page of the Pohoda festival and Depaul Slovakia. The aim is to draw attention to the very real problems of homeless people, for whom winter is a critical time. The festival is also a call to support the activities of the largest low-threshold dormitory in Central Europe, which is celebrating 15 years of its establishment. The people behind the dormitory have a simple wish: “As an organization, we have just one wish for our anniversary, together with the homeless people—to survive this winter.”

07. December 2020

The festival will be opened by Katarína Zagorski, who, as part of the Kilometre Dance, will bring the audience on a daily route of homeless people from the nearest public transport stop to the dormitory. After that, Dorota Nvotová will perform together with Marián Slávka and Australian bassist Marcus Dengate. They will play songs from the album More, new pieces from the upcoming album Ten, as well as songs Dorota wrote in collaboration with Milan Lasica. Fero Király will present the works of Philip Glass in the dormitory showers, Robert Roth will recite Punk verses, and then Katarzia will perform songs from album Antigona among the beds of the clients of the dormitory. Zuzana Kovačič Hanzelová will talk about the problems of homeless people with the president of Slovak republic Zuzana Čaputová and Jozef Kákoš, the director of Depaul Slovakia, and then Ivan Šiller will play in the online premiere the songs by Marián Varga, which he composed already as a student of a primary art school. The songs will soon be released in a book called “O chlapcovi, ktorý krotil čertov a našiel krásu” (About a boy who tamed devils and found beauty). At the end, Funny Fellows will perform songs from the new album “Kto sa nehrá z kola von.” Csongor Kassai, Helena Krajčiová and other guests will sing musicalized pieces of the eponymous collection of poems by Tomáš Janovic.

The streets of Bratislava see about 4,000 homeless people every day. The low-threshold dormitory services are used each year by more than 1,000 people. The employees of Depaul Slovakia take care to provide the homeless with a warm place, food, and basic services no matter in what condition they come. Among other things, they get toiletries and, if interested, also social counselling and job search assistance. The Doma dobre festival wants to draw attention to the fact that during the pandemic, homeless people are an extremely vulnerable group. We would be glad if you could join the stream from the dormitory and contribute to help the homeless.
