Discover the packed programme that awaits you in the Martinus Literature Tent this year. Enjoy two days of high-quality readings and incredible guests. On Friday, look forward to Taiwanese award winner Salizan Takisvilainan, the newly crowned Magnesia Litera prose award winner Marek Torčík, Ivan Štrpka with Robo Roth, and LiteRapture featuring Dušan Vlk, Boy Wonder, and others. Saturday brings award-winning author Ḥassan Blāsim, the popular Martinus quiz, reporter Tomáš Forró, but also SLAM POETRY.

Ivan and Only Štrpka
Join us in celebrating the 80th birthday of Ivan Štrpka, the renowned bard of Slovak literature. Alongside Štrpka himself, his voice – Robo Roth – will perform a selection of his finest lyrics, poetry, and prose.

Literary Circus of KK Bagala: POVIEDKA 2024 (SHORT STORY 2024)
Witness the evaluation of the 28th Poviedka Competition. The jury, including Karol D. Horváth (chairman), Vanda Rozenbergová, Radovan Potočár, Barbora Hrínová, Balla, and Soňa Uriková, will present the winning texts and authors. The winning short stories will be read by Jana Oľhová, with Koloman Kertész Bagala hosting.

Ako naučiť deti čítať? (How to Teach Children to Read?)
Slovak children's reading self-esteem ranks among the lowest in the EU, and book access is also quite limited at home and in schools. How can parents and teachers help children fall in love with books? How can they teach them to read and enjoy books? And what about compulsory reading? Viki Marcinová from The Land of Readers, Katka Koščová, and Palo Hric from The Way Out, who is a finalist for the Teacher of the Year Award, will address these questions.

Marek Torčík: O dôležitosti spomienok (On the Importance of Memories)
Marek Torčík
, a recent winner of the Magnesia Litera Prize for Prose, has garnered attention in his home country as well as in ours with his debut prose work “Rozložíš paměť” (Memory Burn). Fans of Slovak literature may recognise him from the Básne Competition, where he was one of the ten finalists in 2018 and 2020. Slovak author Marek Hudec will interview him.

Salizan Takisvilainan a príbehy horských nosičov Taiwanu (Salizan Takisvilainan and the Stories of Taiwan's Mountain Porters)
Salizan Takisvilainan
has won just about every Taiwanese literary prize in existence. He comes from the Bunun, Taiwan's largest indigenous ethnic group known for their traditional mountain lifestyle and history of porterage. The author himself worked as a mountain porter while collecting stories for his book, capturing the unique experiences of his people. Marek Hudec will host this event, part of the Author's Reading Month.

Juvenílie Dana Majlinga a Sone Urikovej (Dano Majling and Soňa Uriková's Juvenilia)
What had the Slovak literary stars been writing about before they became famous? While Dano was playing the Three Investigators and impersonating a detective in his hometown, Soňa was gazing at village boys and healing her broken heart by escaping into fantasy worlds. With comedian Jakub Lužina, they will explore their early works and literary journeys.

Hold the music – let the words flow! Enjoy performances by top Slovak and Czech rap artists, including Dušan Vlk, Dan (P/\ST), Boy Wonder, Ivan Kostra, and Czech beatboxing maestro Strýček Nicholas, showcasing their talent without beats or mincing their words.

Psychologist Ján Hrustič says that loneliness is when we are next to each other, but each in our own world. What causes us to feel lonely within a relationship? How do we rekindle intimacy when it fades? Join us for a Group Therapy session where, alongside presenter and journalist Jana Močková, you'll explore the challenges faced by close relationships, and learn practical techniques to restore fulfilment, intimacy, closeness, and freedom simultaneously.

Join finalists of Anasoft Litera 2024 Miroslava Kuľková, Ivana Gibová, Richard Pupala, and Lukáš Cabala in a discussion that will introduce you to newer as well as established authors of Slovak literature. Zuzana Bujačková will present their nominated works.

Postsedliaci Juraja Buzalku (The Post-peasants by Juraj Buzalka)
Juraj Buzalka
offers a ruthless, matter-of-fact, and critical perspective on Slovaks, questioning our self-perceptions and fixed ideas about the world. He explores key events in Slovak history and contemporary life with insight and a liberating quick wit. Rudi Rus will ask him: Who are the post-peasants? And what about them?

Tomáš Forró: Spev sirén (Tomáš Forró: The Siren's Song)
Independent freelance reporter Tomáš Forró covers global conflicts and crises. In his new book "Spev sirén" (The Siren's Song), published by Absynt, he delves into the heart of the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine. His narrative transcends the typical media coverage of this conflict. An excerpt from his book will be read by Richard Stanke.

Iracký mesiáš Ḥassana Blāsima (The Iraqi Christ by Ḥassan Blāsim)
Ḥassan Blāsim
was born in Iraq, where he studied at the Academy of Cinematic Arts. After being imprisoned several times, he was advised by his professors to leave Baghdad in 1998. His debut short story, "The Madman of Freedom Square" (translated into Slovak by BRAK publishing house, 2018), was nominated for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize in 2010. Blasim's work has been translated into twenty languages, despite being banned in some Arab countries. This year, a Slovak translation of his book, "The Iraqi Christ," was published. The book made him the first Arab author to win the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize. Publisher František Malík will interview him.

Experience the competitive genre of performative poetry
, where people are free to express themselves in any way they desire. There are only two rules – original text and no costume. Come and see the best of the Czech-Slovak slam scene and decide who will be the winner of the evening. Performers: Tukan (CZ), Ryška Riot (CZ), Bedňa (Slovak champion 2022), Freya (SK), Arejko (SK).
