Poliça

Justin Vernon of Bon Iver told Rolling Stone that Poliça are the best band he’s ever heard.

16. March 2016

According to Rolling Stone, “the sound of heartbreak and celebration happens simultaneously” in their music and Q praises their debut as “bewitching, urgent, magical.” They have just released their third studio album and are going on tour that will include Pohoda. Channy Leaneagh started out as a vocalist and violinist in band Roma di Luna. Meeting producer Ryan Olson was a turning point in her career. Olson convinced her to exchange folk sound for a mix of synth-pop, indietronica and R&B. After that, a bass guitarist and two drummers joined the band. They released the debut Give You the Ghost on Valentine’s Day in 2012. It received 7.6 points from Pitchfork and was also well-received by Rolling Stone. A year later, their follow-up album Shulamith (named after feminist Shulamith Firestone) was released and received 7.5 points in Pitchfork’s review. After a three-year break, their third album, United Crushers, was released in March 2016. According to the band, this album “is a weapon meant to empower the weak and the forgotten.” The album depicts social injustice and isolation. At the same time, it’s also about looking on the bright side when meeting adversities in life.

Despite their short history, Polica already have performances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Later with Jools Holland as well as at festivals such as Coachella and Glastonbury under their belt. EW magazine called their music “propulsive enough for dance floors, and dreamy enough for headphones.” MOJO said they “prove that intelligent pop music still has the ability to seduce and enthrall.” At the beginning of July, Polica are coming to seduce and enthrall Pohoda festival-goers.
