Nina Kohout to Take the Main Stage at Pohoda Ahead of the Iconic Massive Attack

One of the brightest stars in today’s Slovak alternative music scene, Trenčín-born singer and songwriter Nina Kohout, will captivate you with her beautiful music on the festival’s opening day.

14. December 2024

Nina is a graduate of the prestigious British arts institution, The BRIT School. In 2020, she was honoured with the Discovery of the Year award at the Radio_Head Awards, and her track Moonlight from her debut EP Pandemonium was even named Song of the Day by the American radio station KEXP. This recognition has garnered her the attention of global promoters, allowing her to perform not only in England but also in Milan, Ljubljana, Budapest, and at showcase festivals such as Waves Vienna Festival and Eurosonic in the Netherlands. Nina is currently studying Music Technology at the University of Sussex in Brighton.

Nina’s music weaves the mysticism of Slovak folklore with elements of classical music and innovative electronic sounds, while challenging the limits of what is possible in music. This November, she released her debut album Gentle Autopsy, describing it as follows: "I have never thought that creating music could be so much fun, despite being done in solitude. With Gentle Autopsy, I’ve discovered a lightness in music while also addressing the heaviest themes I’ve tackled so far. They’re deeply personal yet go far beyond just me." With the exception of one track, Nina took charge of the music, lyrics, production, and mixing of the entire album.

“Nina grew up just a kilometre from Trenčín Airport, and I believe the time has come for her to perform on its biggest stage. I predict she has a future as a global star, so it feels symbolic that she’ll share the stage with some of the world’s top artists, just steps away from her family home. Nina is preparing a special set for Pohoda, and I can’t wait to hear how it will sound,” said Michal Kaščák, the director of Pohoda Festival, expressing his excitement for Nina Kohout’s concert.
