Nídia at Pohoda 2019

Nídia at Pohoda 2019

Today, we’ll be gradually releasing artists from the alternative electronic scene who’ll perform in the CCC Club. Let us start with Nídia (originally Nídia Minaj). This Cape Verde native produces polyrhythmic dance music based on Afro-Portuguese genres like kuduro, batida or tarraxinha. Her first record, Danger by Nídia Minaj, was an excellent and powerful collection of songs featuring her wild and unmistakable voice. The album ranked in many end-of-the-year best records of 2015 charts, including the TOP10 of electronic albums according to NPR, or Wire magazine's 50 best albums of 2015.

According to Rory Gibb of The Quietus, “her music is dazzling in all senses, a trance-inducing tangle of boxy drums, vivid swirls of synthetic melody and buzzsaw grime bass, all corralled into tracks that feel less like functional dancefloor units and more like short, sharp shocks of adrenaline.“

The release of her album Nídia é Má, Nídia é Fudida was preceded by the single "Sinistro", that Kevin Lozano of Pitchfork described as follows: "The song shows that Nídia’s music, magnetic as it is, no longer needs to fit into the grid of the dance floor, and can exist all in its own space.” As producing goes, Nídia was involved in the album Plunge by Fever Ray (she won the Swedish Grammy for it) and she also participated in Kelela’s "Take Me Apart" remix. Except for that, she performed at events such as Red Bull Music Academy in New York and Berlin, Sonar in Barcelona or Just Jam in London. Her next stop will also be Pohoda 2019.
