Hangár Club line-up at Pohoda on the Ground on Wednesday, 7th July

Right at the beginning of the Pohoda on the Ground festival, we will welcome a local club novice, Hangár, from Trenčín. Their stage will host bands Medial Banana riddim show, Nov, Personal Spaces, Fyasco, producers Jimmy Pé and Lixx, as well as drum&bass crew DNB Family. Club scenes supported by the Bombura and Hangár clubs will complete the line-up of the main stage of this year's version of Pohoda on Wednesday, 7th July.

12. May 2021

“We chose the bands that reflect the view of our cultural space on the Slovak music scene and the bands that have been connected with our club from the very beginning,” said Dávid Tokovics, the boss of Hangár, about booking. He chose the performers together with the assistance of playwright Maroš Sabo.

Medial Banana riddim show

Medial Banana, a seasoned reggae band from Bratislava, celebrated ten years on stage at Pohoda 2019 (they also performed at our festival in 2015 and 2018, while the recording of their first concert is one of the most viewed we have ever added to our YouTube channel). Their collaboration album recorded in Jamaica, Inna Jamdown, was included by the most respected reggae site Reggaeville.com in the selection of the best albums of 2016. The bandʼs success, as they claim, lies on the basic pillars that are tolerance, chill, love for nature, sun, and comfort. Last year, our most popular reggae band released album Nedotknuteľní, about which Marek Danko from Hudba.sk wrote: “Bananas remain true to their style, yet they have also enriched their expression with new elements, performed some lighter experiments, and recorded an album that gives you the feeling of spontaneity, good mood, and a positive charge. The honest music with greatly elaborated arrangements and catchy lyrics with a great deal of insight and sincerity are proof that their strong position on the home scene is truly eligible; if you have ignored them or not taken them seriously so far, you should definitely change that.” The band will perform at Pohoda on the Ground in the formation Medial Banana Ridddim show.

Jimmy Pé

Jimmy Pé is one of the most talented contemporary Slovak producers of electronic music. In 2018, Forbes included him in the list of influential young people 30 under 30. He won the Radio Head_Awards award for his EP Fake Fantasy. He is currently extremely successful also abroad, where his pieces are played by artists such as Baauer, Daedelus, and Dj Craze. He presented EP WuShu at the end of 2017 in China and in the spring of 2018 in the USA (where he also played in the Los Angeles Low End Theory). In the spring of 2020, he released EP Street Circus, which hudba.sk introduced with words “Four tracks that will cut you in pieces.” The EP was released through the American label Slow Roast Records and, for example, a producer from Los Angeles Mono/Poly, a partner of Flying Lotus from his label Brainfeeder, collaborated with him on the song Akinom.

LIXX

Lixx has been DJing for over two decades, with drum & bass playing the lead. He has been preparing, broadcasting and moderating a regular drum & bass show, SIGNAll_FM, on Rádio_FM radio for fourteen years now, and he is also behind the eponymous series of club and festival events. He is also part of the LFO.sk music school and drum & bass brands Basshaze and Beatz. Earlier this year, he launched a series of his LixxLIVE streams. Lixx is a three-time winner of the “Best Slovak Drum & Bass DJ” award according to the Slovak Drum & Bass Awards poll. In 2012, he won the DJ competition at the prestigious Sunandbass festival in Sardinia. In addition to drum & bass, as a DJ, he occasionally engages in eclectic, genre-unlimited listening music in various mini-projects.

DNB Family

The DNB Family crew was formed in 2015 after the Facebook group Drum and Bass Family grew by several thousand members. The group administrator is Matej Chmielarski. The first event, where DNB Family was already working as a crew, took place in 2017 in Banská Bystrica. The organization then moved to Bánovce nad Bebravou and eventually settled in Trenčín, where the crew still performs in the Hangár club. They have held events with producers from all over Europe and Russia, such as Nagato, YMB, Impak, Infamous, Kryzys. The crew includes several talented DJs from Slovakia and Hungary, including producers Gregfruit and Hated. Currently, the organization is still taken care of by Matej. With the booking manager Sofia, they try to bring every event to an even higher level than was the previous one. At their events, crew always tries to evoke an atmosphere of family and well-being, and visitors like returning to their shows. The crew also includes DJs such as Kaško and Baky JNGLST.

FYASCO

We will hear also band Fyasco play their messy hardcore at Pohoda on the Ground. The formation emerged from the band Downstream, where Galo plays guitar and Holup plays bass. In Fyasco, Holup took the drums, Galo picked up the bass and Stoty Tattooer joined them with his guitar. Since they could not find a singer for a longer period of time, Holup says, they solved the situation with an elegant compromise: “We all roar like we were deprived of senses and make music purely at first go, as we feel it. There is no big show of playing and we really enjoy it!

PERSONAL SPACES

Personal Spaces is a four-member band from Trenčín. Their instrumental music reflects genres such as post rock, psychedelia, krautrock, and drone. In their pieces, they emphasize the atmosphere and hypnotic repetitiveness of guitar riffs. In the past, they were the opening act of the American singer Shilpe Ray at home and also played at festivals such as Hviezdne Noci, Who Needs Lyrics, the Končiny festival and others. They have recently released two singles called “Terra Mathei” and “Chinese Storm”, which try to capture the atmosphere of an imaginary place and time without any words.

NOV

Band NOV from Bratislava was formed only recently (in April 2019) and plays dreamy psychedelic post shoegaze. Innocent romantic melodies often wander into a dark alley where only a silent female lament can be heard. The band itself explains the motivation for their existence and work with these words: “The moon is a big glowing ball that tastes a little like cat granules. Once a month it is swallowed by a huge black cat and a new moon occurs. At this point, there is only one thing we can do: we must chant the slow-paced mantras about the human body, strike the drums, and tear the strings. Only this way can the black cat get scared and return back to the moon.”
