Dream Wife, the punk-rock discovery of the year, to perform at Pohoda 2019
Pohoda 2019 will host also the British-Icelandic punk-rock band Dream Wife. Rolling Stone magazine included their performance at the American Lollapaloosa among the 13 best gigs of the festival. Billboard said that they are undoubtedly one of the most exciting rock bands of the past few years, and Paul Glynn called the band “a jaw-dropping live act and one of the most talked-about new bands of 2018”.

Dream Wife consists of Rakel Mjöll (vocals), Alice Go (guitar, vocals), and Bella Podpadec (bass, vocals). The band originated as an art performance for an art school project. In their lyrics, they often tackle issues related to feminism, gender roles, and sexual objectification. Their musical idols and influences include David Bowie, Madonna, and Grimes. They recorded the debut EP Dream Wife in 2016; it was followed by another EP, Fire, and concerts at Iceland Airwaves and SXSW. Earlier this year they released their debut album Dream Wife, which was rated 10/10 by NME. The reviewer described it as a total power-pop joy and remarked that this is the most exciting thing you’re going to hear this dreary January, and quite likely all 2018. The album received very positive reviews also from Drowned in Sound, The Skinny, The Line of The Best Fit, DIY, and the musicOMH.com portal said that “this must already be one of the debut albums of the year”. This was confirmed in the “running” chart of NME at the end of September, in which Dream Wife takes the fourth place. We believe that this band will be much talked about in Slovakia as well, especially after their concert at Pohoda 2019.
