Concert for the Attentive – Ještě jsme se nedohodli

Ještě jsme se nedohodli will open the Concert for the Attentive at Umelka. Representatives of the so-called Brno new wave started out in the 1980s as a one-time thing put together just for fun, but they soon became a sensation on the alternative scene. Not only because they were ignoring bureaucratic obstacles whose purpose was for the regime to control who says what, how and to whom, but, most of all, because of their ability to make quirky music with unusual lyrics. “Nedohodli were original to such an extent that they were regarded as a deviation even in the context of the deviating world of the Czechoslovakian alternative scene. Karel David is a genius lyrics writer, Petr Liška dances and sings those lyrics fantastically. On top of that we have music, which would make some hipsters on the math-rock scene a discovery worldwide if recorded today. This is one of the perfectly hidden music gems,” says Michal Kaščák.

Restlessness and pounding of the shocking lyrics, intertwining guitar links and the looks of shallowness despising bohemians is what made Ještě jsme se nedohodli a cult. Not a cup of tea for the esthetes enjoying perfectionism and non-provoking likeability. The atmosphere of the 1980s aiming for a life as free as possible and for certain provocativeness and decadence emanates from their music. As if the band were doing their best to avoid anything likeable and regime-optimistic; as if they were trying to describe or even create the exact opposite on purpose. Ještě jsme se nedohodli used musical dilettantism to accentuate Karel David’s quality lyrics, added a visual image of “cuboid well-behaved people” and their own musical instruments – and a band impossible to forget was born.

The eleventh edition of the Concert for the Attentive is moving to two exceptional venues: Umelka Gallery will host Bez ladu a skladu and Ještě jsme se nedohodli, and the club Fuga will host Chór vážskych muzikantov, The Wilderness and a world premiere of the Slovakian-Hungarian project titled Drť (Fragments). Admission fee to Umelka is 15€, to Fuga 9€ and a combo ticket to both venues, Umelka and Fuga, is priced at 19€.
