Club Hájovna line-up at Pohoda on the Ground on Sunday, 11th July
The team of the Hájovňa club from Žilina will bring names that are more or less connected with this independent cultural space. As part of Pohoda on the Ground, their stage on Sunday 11th July will host The Pau, Kin, Chorobopop, Ahoj, Cameleon, Prach, Dj Del Sur, and the legendary band Zuby nehty. During the whole day, four artists (Miňa Bielko, Laura Liška, Bia Machovič, and Kristina) will take care of the visual aspect, we will have Slam Poetry, an eco-lecture, workshops Telohra and Monotypia. Booker Dáša Fon Fľaša says: “With our choice of bands, art, and other activities, we will try to bring the atmosphere of Hájovňa’s birthday to Pohoda on the Ground—we have a birthday event every year and it is a full-day celebration connected with concerts and painting the entire building.”

CHOROBOPOP
Former club Vrah, an independent publishing house Malaria and for a very long time now countless excellent bands, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and its independent scene are legendary. Bands are always original, always with an overlap, always about something, always hit. Three veterans Zaj, Keč, and Ctib have appeared in several significant incarnations of the rich Rožnov scene (for example, in band Telefon). Their current synth-post-punk formation is a tribute to the old new-wave bands, yet at the same time its beat is precise like an atomic watch. Their debut Kočky, krysy, celebrity is receiving a number of laudatory review. Headliner wrote in their review: “Most of all, Chorobopop feels like the essence of the best of the pre-revolutionary Czechoslovak underground music transposed to the present.” Michal Smrčina of Fullmoon said there is “a no-wave cut by a rusty razor, a melancholic pleasantness free of gimmicks. Chorobopop write songs that are both urging and slightly disturbing, they do not need to yell to be heard.” Dáša adds: “I’ve been trying to get Chorobopop to Hájovňa for a long time. They are great people, Ctib is like at home with us, and they play great slightly dance and at the same time straight-forward punk music. Ever since I ran into the gang, I knew it wouldn’t be just like that. This is for life. Definitely a big inspiration for me.”
ZUBY NEHTY
Zuby nehty is a living legend, the first all-female punk band in Czechoslovakia. The beginnings are associated with names like Plyn and Dybbuk and the year 1981. Since then, the band has had many both female and male members, and it is still an active band, as evidenced by the recently released last album Srdce Ven. The lightness of street music is combined with the straightforwardness of the punk tradition. According to Pavel Zelinka of Frontman, the heart of the Zuby Nehty beats quickly and inventively even after four decades: “ʻSrdce venʼ is a strong statement of six musicians who show with their testimony that rather than being a professional discussant on social networks, it is more important to patiently return to oneʼs own life path that results in much more interesting stimuli every day.” What thinks Dáša? “We didn’t have a ‘big name’ on our stage, as we were building the line-up with bands that have already played at Hájovňa. So I made my dream come true and together with Michal Kaščák, we were able to bring the oldest (and continuously active!) Czechoslovak female punk band. Oh yeah!”
KIN
After the release of their debut album Phi under the Hevhetia record label, the Szaturma trio transformed into a new form called KIN. The band has built their own musical language based on unique instrumentation (guitar, saxophone, percussions) and an individual approach to compositions. They have recently released their eponymous debut, which was praised by the contemporary music portal HIS Voice: “The debut collection of trio KIN meets all the requirements for a current jazz album. You will enjoy compositional innovations, stylistic overlaps, and contact with the history of the genre, and at the same time, the band’s expression remains entertaining and lightly spontaneous.” The trio builds on the jazz tradition in their work yet elaborates the inspiration by the avant-garde approaches of the New York downtown scene in their compositions. As result, the music created by combining three distinctive musical personalities balances between genres such as post jazz, minimalism, grunge, and free improvisation: “KIN were the last band to play in Hájovňa before concerts were cancelled due to the pandemic. They were a quick choice, because this is quality music and in terms of genre, it is different from the rest of the line-up, which perfectly demonstrates the variety of styles that play in our club.” added Dáša.
THE PAU
Paulina performing under the name The Pau is an exceptional phenomenon on the Polish alternative scene. She performs alone, with an electric guitar and a mic. She records everything else on her own and stores it in her phone. With her modest behaviour, intense concerting and strong songs, she has gained many fans and in Poland she plays alongside the biggest names of the independent scene. She has released two albums and is working on a third one that is expected this summer. You see a girl with a guitar, and you hear a great band: “I met Pau when we did our first concerts together in 2018. We’ve been friends since then, she also played at Hájovňa and it’s always been great. I’m happy to see her total progress and growth. She fits nicely in a smoky club but she also deserves a festival stage and I know that she will dominate it.” says Dáša.
PRACH
Trio Prach from the Nástupište in Žilina has been playing for some time now, but they are in no hurry, just like their music. At rehearsals, they always take a long time to talk while having beer and then they play: friendship is simply more than music for them. Their melancholic punk music is a good soundtrack to listen to on rainy days. They released a demo in 2018 and last year they recorded new material for their debut album that is to come out this summer. The band brought together friends and seasoned punk rockers from the bands HT, Coexist, The Kľemones, and Dáša Fon Fľaša in yet another form. “We often play at Hájovňa, I do concerts there, so we are quite connected with the space. Since we will also have a rehearsal room there, we will be connected even more. We will actually be a kind of forest punk from Hájovňa.” says Dáša Fon Fľaša.
AHOJ
Hájovňa is connected through friendships also with the Kubík space in Trnava, and one of the million activities that have sprung up from there is band Ahoj. They are making use of everything they learned in the related bands Coco Bongo and Absolute Zero, and include Alice’s thick vocals. It results in the uncompromising older-style fast hardcore / punk music that mixes the best of the genre and is served with the urgency of melting glaciers. It is an emotional, honest, quick and strong statement. They released their debut EP in physical form on a cassette and in an ultra-limited edition also on vinyl. “We have cooperations with some people and spaces. Kubik is one of them; we like the bands that form there and they have always played in Hájovňa, so they are part of our community. Since one hour is an awful lot for a set of hardcore / punk band and Rišo also plays drums in band Cameleon, it occurred to me to cram the other band into the slot. Simply some members will change and play a different set on the same instruments. Exactly as it happens at punk concerts,” says Dáša Fon Fľaša.
CAMELEON
Duo Cameleon. “Only” drums and bass and urging vocals. The action duo of Rišo and Peter built their current project on the buried foundations of the Žilina underground expressways PARTE! and KITT. However, they did it from the very opposite end of the spectrum of hardcore / punk music and an excellent hybrid of slow riffs was created. The non-playing member Tadko takes care of lyrics. In their own category, stoner-core, they are unparalleled. Dáša says about them: “When I was considering bands, Cameleon were one of the first I thought about. Rišo managed the sound of concerts at Hájovňa and helped with other things as well. In addition, it is a very original duo and a good representative of the current underground scene, which we care about the most. Together with Ahoj, they are an ideal couple for cramming two punk bands in one hour.”
DJ DEL SUR
A charming boy born in Žilina, mostly performing at local events, who plays folktronics, African rhythms, and house. With two other musicians, he is preparing a special set for the festival, where live rhythm section will be connected to his computer, with various percussions and other “strange” foreign instruments. And to make things even better, girls will launch a fireshow. Grande finale on the Hájovňa stage until dawn.
