Arca – World Famous Musician and Producer at Pohoda 2023
Another big name in world music has been added to Pohoda Festival line-up. The excellent Venezuelan musician and producer Arca, whose concert will close Pohoda 2023 on the main stage in July.
23. February 2023
Arca is one of the most talented artists of recent years, as evidenced by the fact that Björk chose her as producer and collaborator for her albums Vulnicura (2015) and Utopia (2017). However, the list of amazing artists
she has collaborated with does not end with Björk. She has also worked with FKA Twigs, Kelala, Blood Orange, Frank Ocean, Sega Bodega and Shygirl, who will also perform at Pohoda this year. Her musical signature can be heard in several remixes, such as Rain On Me by Lady Gaga, but she has also done remixes for Deftones, Laurie Anderson or Tirzah.
It's hard to pigeonhole her work into one style, as it contains elements of IDM, experimental, industrial hip-hop, reggaeton, techno and avant-pop – simply her own unique mix. "I don't want to be tied to one genre," says Arca. "I don't want to be labelled as one thing."
She made a strong impression with her work in 2012, when she released the EPs Stretch 1 and Stretch 2. Her subsequent albums are now cult classics: &&&&& (2013), Xen (2014), Mutant (2015), Arca (2017), KiCK i (2020) – nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance/Electronic Album category, and KiCK iii (2021), which was named Best New Music by Pitchfork Magazine.
And on her albums, you can hear other amazing guest artists: Sia, Planningtorock, Shygirl, Rosalía, SOPHIE, Boys Noize, Shirley Manson from the band Garbage, Machinedrum, but also Björk.
Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, and currently based in Barcelona, Arca breaks myths not only in music but also in sexuality and orientation. She identifies as a non-binary trans woman. "I can't think of a a more fitting, important and powerful way to close Pohoda 2023 on the main stage than with Arca’s concert. In addition to being a great artistic contribution to the entire festival, this performance has a significant symbolic meaning after the terrorist attack on Zámocká Street in Bratislava. Arca was the first artist I approached for 2023. The booking was not easy due to the high interest in her art, and not only among music venues. I am proud that Arca will close this year's Pohoda," says festival director Michal Kaščák
Arca joins other previously announced artists who will perform at Pohoda Festival from July 6 – 8, 2023. Among them are Central Cee, Jamie xx, Ben Howard, Caroline Polachek, slowthai, Suzanne Vega, this year's two-time Grammy and the BRIT Awards winners Wet Leg, SOFI TUKKER, Viagra Boys, Perfume Genius,Pussy Riot, Arooj Aftab, Shygirl, AMELIE LENS, Sampa the Great, Genesis Owusu, Dry Cleaning, shame, Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul, Liniker, Yard Act, PVA, Hermeto Pascoal, Jana Kirschner, Zea, Tata Bojs, and many others.
