Anna Calvi to perform in Nová Cvernovka on 12 November
The guitar virtuoso with a fantastic voice, Anna Calvi, returns to Slovakia after her great performances at Pohoda and the Old Market Hall. The artist, who was nominated twice for the Mercury Prize and the BRIT Award and the winner of European Border Breakers Award, will perform on 12 November 2018 at 8:00 PM in Nová Cervnovka, Bratislava.

The multi-instrumentalist Anna Calvi is particularly famous for her glamorous guitar play, however, she studied violin at the university. The artrockʼs artist inspiration includes impressionists (Ravel, Debussy), Nina Simone, and Jimi Hendrix. One of her first discoverers was Brian Eno, who described her as the best that appeared after Patti Smith. As early as 2010, she supported for Interpol, Arctic Monkeys, and Nick Cave.
In 2011, she released an eponymous debut, Anna Calvi that brought her a nomination for the Mercury Prize and the BRIT Awards. The jury at Mercury Prize showed interest also in her second album One Breath. Later on, she became the member of the awards jury herself. A year later, she released an EP containing a selection of her covers Strange Weather. In recent weeks, on social networks, she used a red-filtered dramatic artwork to suggest the arrival of a new album.

It will feature musicians such as Adrian Utley of Portishead and Martyn Casey of The Bad Seeds. Along with the album, she also released a video for the first single “Do not Beat The Girl Out Of My Boy”. The single depicts the main ideas of the album—the overthrowing of gender barriers and stereotypes. It criticizes, for example, that children are forced to follow patterns, when we teach boys not to cry.
