Former chef Action Bronson started to devote himself fully to rap after breaking his leg in the kitchen. Since then, seven studio albums have seen the light of day, starting with 2011's Dr. Letter and ending with his latest record, Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor, released in July 2024. His style is characterised by lightness, playfulness, humour, wordplay and complex metaphors. He cites fellow rappers such as Kool G Rap, Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang Clan, as well as Carlos Santana, Queen and Albanian wedding singers as major influences. His live performances have been described by fans as unforgettable and wild.
Aside from his career in music, Action Bronson still enjoys cooking and hosting. He has two successful cooking shows – the talkshow The Untitled Action Bronson show and the travel series FUCK... that's delicious, both of which have earned him millions of views and millions of followers on social media. He also likes to rap about food. In fact, the track “Baby Blue” (featuring the rapper Chance the Rapper) is introduced by the phrase “Heartbreak drowned sorrows in a large steak”.
Bronson's seventh studio album, Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor, was released last July. The album earned positive reviews from music critics, including Alfie Clark of Hive Magazine, who described it as "an album that is so easy on the ears, yet provides a certain level of complexity that is so often seen in the alternative rap scene, all whilst keeping his wild and hilarious personality in the mix." The record also features guest appearances from Bronson's pals Meyhem Lauren and The Alchemist. The opening two singles, “Nourish a Thug” and “Sega”, are complemented by music videos in which Action is portrayed as the fictional character "Dr. Baklava" on the run from the law.
"Bronsoliño is not only a host, showman, chef, but also a huge New York rapper. I'm looking forward to his show, where he'll serve us bangers with a flow as sharp as a machete. Only 180 more sleeps until the feast of my summer. FUCK… that’s delicious!," says Pohoda festival’s Gastro and Catering Head, Gabriel Sebő.
