Karel Veselý: Hudba srdce CZ
Where did the old love songs go? A conversation with Karel Veselý about the history and present of love songs – from the Beach Boys and the Spice Girls to Sophia.
Music journalist and writer Karel Veselý (Alarm magazine) will be presenting his latest book Hudba srdce (Music of the Heart), recently longlisted for the Czech Republic’s most prestigious literary award, the Magnesia Litera. The book tells the story of the modern love songs, set against the backdrop of social and cultural history – from the Beach Boys and the Spice Girls to Sophia.
As in his previous books, Hudba ohně (Music of Fire) and Všechny kočky jsou šedé (All Cats Are Grey), he explores how politics seeps into pop and how this shapes the way we experience the world. Can a love song be radical? Are love songs dead? And what about love itself?
Karel Veselý’s appearance at Pohoda is brought to you by literarnyklub.sk.
