JFDR is the musical project of Icelandic singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jófríður Ákadóttir, counting the Icelandic music icon Björk among her admirers. Within seconds of listening to JFDR, you'll know this is Icelandic music – strings, soft electronics and a familiar voice wrapped in an atmosphere and feelings that only Icelandic music can truly evoke.
Throughout her career, she has worked with great musicians such as Ólafur Arnalds, Damien Rice, Lapalux and Sin Fang. She has three studio albums to her name, the latest of which, "Museum", was released this spring. She is also adept at creating atmosphere, having composed the soundtrack for the award-winning film Backyard Village.
"JFDR is one of my favourite female songwriting projects. I love her fragility, her tenderness, her voice, but also her willingness to experiment. I've seen her live about four times, two of them in an attic – the last time in May this year at the Artcafé in Banská Štiavnica. It was beautiful," adds Dominik Suchý from the band Tittingur, who recommended JFDR to us.
