Bulgarian queer performer, dancer, singer, a cultural phenomenon according to BBC Radio, and our discovery from Eurosonic 2024. Ivo Dimchev, a masterful performer with an emotive voice who oscillates on stage between rock star and prima donna, will perform at Pohoda 2025 with his five-piece band.
Ivo Dimchev is a versatile artist from Bulgaria – theatre maker, choreographer, visual artist, singer, composer, and queer activist. His work is a vibrant mix of performance, dance, theatre, music, painting, and photography. He has created over 40 theatre productions and has received numerous international awards for his work in dance and theatre.
Ivo blew us away at last year’s Eurosonic. His set stood out as one of the most interesting, both musically and performatively. His connection with the audience was extraordinary. His concerts are dark yet colourful, melancholic yet humorous, romantic yet danceable, intimate yet provocative. Ivo’s voice is one that gets under your skin.
At Pohoda, he’ll arrive with his new band made up of Ivo Dimchev (vocals and keyboard), Adrian Nikolov (drums), Alexandar Hristov (guitar), Boil Karaneychev (bass guitar), and Martin Bodurov (trumpet). Expect plenty of cheerful tracks in Bulgarian from the pandemic era – songs about food, alcohol, and sex like “Vodka”, “Pushkin”, or “Halal”, which he wrote to cheer up both his audience and himself. The band will also perform Ivo’s “classics” and heartbreaking ballads sung in English.
„I discovered Ivo Dimchev just before heading to Eurosonic 2024 and ended up watching nearly every video I could find. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He was phenomenal live at Eurosonic. He plays a mix of provocative cabaret and seemingly simple songs, which he delivers brilliantly with a rich baritone that easily reaches into highs full of embellishments. And he doesn’t just perform his own material – he plays games with the audience, too. Games that are, at their core, serious, but Ivo delivers them in a way that often has the crowd bursting into genuine laughter,” adds Monika Matiašovská from the Pohoda Festival team.
