The Polish duo Franek Warzywa & Młody Budda are said to be as fresh as the vegetables they love to sing about. This eccentric pair will take you on a colourful journey filled with humour, hyperpop, punk, and rap at Pohoda.
Franek Drażba, aka Franek Warzywa, and Adam Kiepuszewski, aka Młody Budda, first met in 2021 through TikTok. Franek is a visual artist and a graduate of the Media Art Faculty at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, while Adam studied music in Amsterdam with a focus on jazz guitar. United by their love of music—and, of course, vegetables—they formed a crazy duo beloved for their original and humorous videos accompanying their music.
Renowned music critic Anthony Fantano, aka The Needle Drop, listed their 2023 EP Wykopki among the best EPs of the year. A year later, their follow-up EP Komputer also made it into his Top 15. The well-known American reviewer didn’t seem to mind that the songs are entirely in Polish, describing their music as "A super zany, crazy, off-the-wall, entertaining batch of weird internet pop songs, and sometimes math rock. It's absurd and oddly catchy."
Pseudo-nationalist potatoes, local food markets invaded by leeks, dogs in space… all of this unfolds in the bizarre and vibrant world of Franek Warzywa & Młody Budda (Frankie Veggies & Young Buddha). While this fascinating Polish audio-visual duo first gained recognition online, their true passion lies in the raw energy of live performances. Whether they’re playing in galleries, markets, or concert halls, their mix of hyperpop, jazz, and punk—enhanced by the visuals—makes for a show you definitely don’t want to miss.
They’ll be coming to Pohoda as a trio, with Franek Drażba, aka Franek Warzywa (vocals, animations), and Adam Kiepuszewski, aka Młody Budda (vocals, guitar, laptop, sampler) joined on stage by Dutch drummer Niels Luteijn. Of course, we can also look forward to their unique and humorous animations, an essential part of their show.
"Their show is like a great animated film (literally—half the experience is the visuals). It’s fun for everyone! Imagine Berlin Manson, but with more hyperpop, in Polish (!!), and perfect for when you don’t feel like being angry at the world. It’s high-energy and pure joy. See you in front of the stage!" says Barbora “Barbie” Bodnárová from the Pohoda Festival team.
