Slovak indie pop band Bad Karma Boy will come to Pohoda 2025 with guests and a special stage design by their bassist Alan Prekop. Having been on the scene for more than a decade, they will play their well-known pieces as well as songs from their latest album, Noc na Zemi (Night on Earth).
Bad Karma Boy are Juraj Marikovič, Adela Tihláriková, Alan Prekop, Roman Lauko and Martin Zaujec. They have been active on the Slovak alternative music scene for more than 10 years. They are known for their alt-pop music and precisely composed arrangements, where the core focus is on songwriting. They have already performed at major Czech-Slovak festivals, as well as concerts abroad – Poland, Latvia, France, Estonia or Hungary.
In the fall of 2024, the band released their fourth studio album Noc Na Zemi, their first record in seven years. The album was introduced with the single Láska. The recording of the album took place in various locations – from Bratislava to Costa Rica. The atmosphere of the songs reflects the places where they were created, be it the ocean mist, the solitude of the night, or the band's experiences in recent years. Their signature melancholy is still present, but they also explore new sounds and creative expressions.
The album Noc Na Zemi consists of ten tracks and in addition to the traditional band set-up, drummer Marián Slávka, multi-instrumentalist Martin Zaujec and sound engineer Jeff Claeys were involved in the creation and recording process. The recording has received positive response not only from the fans, but from the music critics as well. Jakub Veselý from the Czech music magazine Full Moon wrote about the record the following: "Bad Karma Boy manage to capture subtle moments, but also playfully paint a dream-like abstraction, at the same time expressing the desires and voices of people struggling in social events. The pace of the album is reminiscent of the evenings spent with loved ones, or even solitary contemplation about memories and sorrows, softly blurred by nostalgia."
"Cosmic Captain Medveď, Momko, Alanko Chalanko, Adel and Zaji are the top indie-pop band in the local music scene! That riff in “Láska” gave my fingers a proper workout after a long time. Okay, that's enough, or I'll be accused of favouritism... PS: Medveď hates being compared to classic 80’s Bratislava pop, but for me, Noc na zemi embraces its influence in the most beautiful way—blended with a touch of wistful beach nostalgia. Give it a listen!" adds a big fan of Bad Karma Boy, Majo Tesák from the Pohoda Festival team.
