Master sitarist, film composer and author of thirteen solo albums, the first woman of Indian descent to perform at the Grammy Awards, and with an incredible eleven nominations for this prestigious award to her name. At Pohoda, Anoushka Shankar will be celebrating thirty years in the music industry.
British musician of Indian descent, Anoushka Shankar began studying sitar and Indian classical music at the age of nine under the intensive tutelage of her father, the world-renowned Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar. From him she inherited not only the musical tradition passed down through generations, but also the freedom to improvise – an element that made him world-famous.
This remarkable musician and composer loves breaking down genre boundaries. From world music and electronica to jazz and neo-classical, Anoushka’s passion for experimentation and collaboration has led her to work with a wide range of artists, including Herbie Hancock, Patti Smith, Sting, Nils Frahm, M.I.A. and her half-sister Norah Jones. Together with Norah, she recorded several tracks for Traces of You, a personal album dedicated to their late father. The album was nominated for a Grammy in 2014 in the category Best World Music Album.
Her touring career has taken her to legendary jazz clubs, iconic symphony halls, and festival stages around the globe, each time transforming the space into an intimate, unforgettable experience shared between her and the audience.
This year marks her incredible thirty years in the music industry, which she celebrates with the final chapter of her mini album trilogy: Chapter I: Forever, For Now (2023), Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn (2024) and Chapter III: We Return To Light (March 2025). The second one recently earned her an eleventh Grammy nomination, and at Pohoda 2025, we will have the chance to hear fresh material from the final chapter.
