Zrní & Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava

Zrní & Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava

The captivating music of the band Zrní stems from the improvisation of musicians who enjoy constant exploration of new possibilities. Five lovers of folk music born in this electronic age (slowly but surely) made it from the streets of Kladno and Prague among the elite of Czech music. In their music, however, there is no sign of elitism, just constant curiosity and joy of playing. After their excellent concert at Pohoda in 2013, they are coming to the 20th edition of our festival with a musical company of 40 members of the Janáček Philharmonic.

02. June 2016

The band Zrní was formed in the summer of 2001. These youngsters of post-industrial Kladno love landscape and nature, which is also reflected in their musical contrasts. Their songs have vocals, violin, guitar, bass, drums, accordion, and flute, as well as samples and anything else that can be played. The band released their debut Voní in 2009. As this alternative folk-rock band was steadily rising, they built an unmistakable sound. Their third album, Soundtrack ke konci světa (Soundtrack to the End of the World), was a breakthrough, and it was nominated for perhaps every possible award in the Czech Republic. At the Angel Awards organised by the Academy for Modern Music, they won a statuette for the discovery of the year. In 2013, they played at Pohoda in NAY Dance house. A year later they released another successful album Následuj Kojota (Follow Coyote). Late last year, a new acoustic album followed together with a tour with the band Korben Dallas. On the 23rd June, Zrní will have been together for fifteen years. A few days later they will come to celebrate their anniversary at the twentieth Pohoda, this time with the Philharmonic and on the main stage.
