Thundercat

Thundercat (born Stephen Bruner) is a renowned bassist, who has collaborated with the likes of Erykah Badu, Stanley Clarke, Flying Lotus or Kendrick Lamar. Playing the six-string bass, he performs the best of R&B, jazz fusion, soul, funk and electronic music. The recent winner of a Grammy Award is coming to present his music and technical mastery to festival-goers at Pohoda 2016.

25. February 2016

Thundercat has music in his blood. Literally. His father, Ronald Bruner Sr., is a world-class jazz drummer (The Temptations, Diana Ross, etc.) as is his brother, a Grammy Award laureate, Ronald Bruner Jr. (Roy Hargove, Stanley Clarke, etc.). It was his brother who brought Stephen to join Suicidal Tendencies, with whom he went on a worldwide tour while still in high school. Thundercat has continued co-operating with other artists such as Erykah Badu, Stanley Clarke, Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar. A collab on track “These Walls” with the last one on the list has recently won him a Grammy Award. Flying Lotus co-produced his debut – The Golden Age of Apocalypse – an album whose qualities, according to Pitchfork, recall Erykah Badu, Herbie Hancock and Bill Withers' music. The album received 81% from discerning critics whereas its follow up (Apocalypse) and his third album (The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam) managed to outstrip that. Even the praises on his music and technical skills from a number of journalists can't do Stephen's fingers that create his transcendental grooves justice. You simply need to see and hear it.
