The Red Bull Music Academy Stage for the first time at Pohoda 2016

The Red Bull Music Academy Stage for the first time at Pohoda 2016

The Pohoda festival will host the Red Bull Music Academy stage the first time in our country. The RBMA stage is one of the activities of the Red Bull Music Academy itinerant worldwide workshop, which is a celebration of music, culture, and talents that embody it. The varied list of artists of this stage also includes the bass virtuoso Thundercat, the producer Koreless, and the singer Sevdaliza. Besides Pohoda, the RBMA stage is also part of festivals such as Sónar (ESP), Bonnaroo (US), Mutek (CAN), Nothing Hill (ENG), Melt! (GER), Splendour in the Grass (NL), and many others.

07. June 2016

The stage will feature 15 artists representing the current sound of the Academy. We can look forward to performances of artists playing different genres. The English producer Throwing Snow supported the tour of Bonobo, as well as the Thom Yorkeʼs (Radiohead) project Atoms for Peace. The London BBC Radio1 DJ Josey Rebelle, besides the classic club and festival playing, presented her DJ skills for example also in the first ever Boiler Room aired in 2010.
Koreless, a producer of the famous label Young Turks, will appear on the stage, too. Following impressive live performances with a string quartet, he also played alongside the band Mogwai and toured with the Canadian producer Caribou. The distinctive husky voice and thick bass lines are typical of the music of Sevdaliza, a Dutch singer and producer of Iranian origin. "Beautiful and special - pop music of the future", this is how BBC´s John Peel described the unique sound another performer, the producer Robot Koch from Berlin.

In the world premiere, the stage will feature Never Sol, the representative of the Czech Republic and Slovakia at the Academy in Tokyo. She is current recording an EP in cooperation with the Turkish producer Ah! Cosmos, with whom she will also perform at Pohoda. Another joint music project will feature two well-known Slovak artists, the songwriter Katarzia and Martin Valihora, a graduate of the world famous Berklee College of Music in Boston. Dalibor Hriadeľ aka Stratasoul will present his long-awaited album. The team of Slovak artists will further include the DJ, producer, and vibraphonist Dalibor Kocian, playing under the nickname Stroon (also known as a member of the Košice band Puding Pani Elvisovej). Stage will also host the Munich producer Skee Mask, and Stuart Li aka Basic Soul Unit will come from Canada. The intersection of jazz and hip-hop will be presented by DJ Paypal, another producer publishing under the label Brainfeeder. We will also see the respected hip-hop DJ and producer Justin "Kutmah" McNulty from Los Angeles, who has cooperated with other artists at this year´s Pohoda, such as Flying Lotus and Saul Williams.

The varied stage sound will be accompanied by the visual concept of Michaela Chmelíčková. It will be completed with the exhibition of current technology for music production/DJ-ing and gallery Beyond the Noise, which captures artists in unique moments before and after their performances.
