Sonido Gallo Negro

Sonido Gallo Negro

Sonido Gallo Negro is a Mexican band of 9 members playing Peruvian cumbia, which is cumbia mingled with other genres which you probably have not heard of yet (huayno, sonidero cumbia, and boogaloo). You can hear this unusual mix of spaghetti-western soundtracks, psychedelia, and surf music in early July at Pohoda.

A few years ago, Sonido Gallo Negro brushed up the popular Peruvian Cumbia from the turn of the sixties and seventies and enriched it by other Latin genres and unconventional instrumentals. Their concerts are beautified by outstanding illustrations by the designer Dr. Alderete, made up on the spot. In 2011, they released their debut "Cumbia Salvaje" (Wild Cumbia). It was the song "Leticia" released on this album that was included in the Red Bull compilation Panamérika, and this is how Guardian picked it for the review of remarkable tracks of the world. In early 2012, they played at several events in Europe (such as Kustendorf Festival curated by Emir Kusturica). Their fans enjoyed most their performance at the Vive Latino festival (in 2013 and 2015). It is the recording of the last year's concert at this event that shows the basic flavours of their work and play: hypnotic rhythms and harmonies of the tribes of the Andes and Amazon forest, as well as unbridledness of Pacific surfers.
