Saul Williams: master of the slam poetry
Saul Williams is a guy that is equally good when performing in movies, on Broadway; when giving lectures at universities or playing unknown suburban clubs. He works with word, its rhythm and dynamics with cadence of Muhammad Ali. A Nike campaign featured his track “List of Demands”. Feature film Slam earned him awards at Sundance as well as Cannes festivals and he shone in Holler If Ya Hear Me Broadway musical. And now he comes to Pohoda.

In his performance, Saul Williams combines his passion for poetry, acting and music. He sees poetry as the clearest and most direct expression. Music is an expedition to the new world that is being hatched out of our dreams and acting has allowed him insight into the nature of humanity and has helped him develop as a thinker. His best-known music includes track “List of Demands (Reparations)” used in Nikeʼs motivational campaign “My Better is Better” or EP Not in My Name supporting Not in Our Name anti-war movement. His “Coded Language” is a legendary poetry piece performed at Def Poetry (HBO). Saulʼs latest album or rather multimedia project is Martyr Loser King criticizing many issues of todayʼs world. The project features a world tour as well. The legend of slam poetry, Saul Williams, is going to visit Pohoda as part of this tour.
