Catchy Colombian melodies and rhythms will be played also at Pohoda 2017. They will be delivered by band La Mambanegra, which was, ranked by Billboard one of the five Colombian bands that you should know. As Guardian put it, the first class musicians deliver their energetic mixture of salsa, Caribbean influences, funk, hip-hop, R&B, and jazz in a riveting and entertaining way. Billboard also wrote that La Mambanegra achieved the ideal balance between virtuosity and the dance aspect of their music, and they will show that to Pohoda visitors this summer.

La Mambanerga is a nine-member Latino orchestra that bases their music on the New York salsa of the 70s, Jamaican dancehall, Colombian musicality, funk, and hip-hop. The leader of the band Jacobo Vélez refers to this mixture as to break-salsa. In their songs, they describe the adventures of a mythical hero that he experienced in his hometown in Cali, Havana, and New York. Since their formation in 2012, they have given a number of concerts in the Southern Hemisphere, such as Toque Festival in Buenos Aires, WOMADelaide, WOMAD New Zealand, and Perth International Arts Festival. The distinctive rhythm and brass section provides a mix of older genres with polyrhythmic patterns and original contemporary sound. According to the portal Sounds And Colours that covers Latino culture, they are: “funky as James Brown and hot as nightclubs in Cali.” After last yearʼs successful European tour, they are returning to the old continent also this summer, and will pay our festival a visit.
