Irie Révoltés

Irie Révoltés

Many revolutions are accompanied by anger and negative emotions. However, this is not true for “Happy Revolts” – a loosely translated title of the German band Irie Révoltés. A nine-member assembly of Heidelberg is diverse in genres and languages, too.

24. March 2015

Their creative act embraces reggae, hip-hop, dancehall, ska, and punk. Apart from German, they also sing in French, English, and Spanish. The band was founded in 2000 and has since recorded four studio albums. Their songs have been watched by millions of people on YouTube. This band, however, is not intended for lovers of videos on social networks. The most powerful weapons of these revolutionaries are live concerts and positive energy. Why “Révoltés”? In their songs, they stand out sharply against discrimination, sexism, chauvinism, and racism. Their commitment does not end with a simple denomination of negative phenomena in the society today. The band members are actively involved in helping the people in need. For example, they collaborate on the project Viva con Agua, which supports the construction of wastewater treatment plants in Ethiopia, promote the project “Respect!”, and helped disabled people in Senegal. They regularly involve their fans in these activities right in the streets. Here you can find the answer to why they are “Irie” (positive, happy). We are very pleased that this positive revolution will come to our festival, too.
