Honeyblood - lo-fi indie duo from Scotland

Stina Marie Claire Tweeddale and Shona McVicar recorded their first two tracks on a cassette in a bathroom with a single mic and named the record Thrift Shop.

Despite its poor sound and lo-fi roar, Honeyblood drew the attention of fans and of a record label, and received positive reviews from NME, Pitchfork or The Guardian. After their second concert at Wide Days festival, FatCat Records signed them. When McVicar left the band, drummer Cat Myers replaced her. With this lineup, the band have supported acts including Foo Fighters, Palma Violets or Deap Vally and have played festivals such as T in The Park, SXSW or Great Escape. Their latest concerts at home in Glasgow were such a success that many fans could not even get in. Their eponymous debut was produced by Peter Katis (The National). On this album, lo-fi isn’t represented via low sound quality but through the economical arrangements. According to NME, Honeyblood “bridge the decades between the fiery fem-pop of the grunge era – The Breeders and PJ Harvey – and current wave of Glasgow’s noir rock and indie.”
