Ghostigital

Ghostigital

They say that Iceland has more good bands than there are people. Therefore, it is easily possible that a father and a son perform as leaders of two different bands at a festival that is held thousands of miles away from home. Ghostigital is another band that is booked for our line-up, and its lead singer is the father of the singer of the band Fufanu – Kaktus.

Ghostigital was started by Einar Örn, who sang with Björk in the legendary bands The Sugarcubes and KUKL. Later, he founded the band Grindverk and described it as dance music for those who cannot dance. He also worked with Damon Albarn on the soundtrack for the film 101 Reykjavík, as well as the song by Gorillaz "Stop The Dams". In 2003, Einar Örn released a solo album called Ghostigital, and the name of the debut became the name of the project. The album was produced by an Icelandic producer living in New York City – Curver – who eventually became a full member of the band. Ghostigital play so-called "electronic beat music". This includes dub, hip hop, noise, and, of course, Einar's quirky views on the world. This experimental avant-garde is presented to listeners as a cure for boredom and apathy. What Einar tries to do with his music and performances is to awaken eccentric tastes and motives in his listeners. In the song Numb, he sings "I'm in the process of thinking of nothing"; from there, the audience will certainly start pondering. If anyone felt that the production of Ghostigital is strange or outright bizarre, they definitely would not be the only ones to think that. The website weirdestbandintheworld.com included them in its bizarre list. You should not, however, confuse that with a list of bad bands. The compilers highly value the peculiarities of the mentioned bands, just as much as we do. It is not surprising then that some other names from our line-up this year are also mentioned.
