Flying Lotus
BBC DJ Mary Anne Hobbs crowned him the “electronic Jimi Hendrix.” His latest album features guest appearances by Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Kimbra and Thundercat. In the past, he also collaborated with the likes of Erykah Badu and Thom Yorke. He's got an MTV Video Music Award and 2 Grammy nominations under his belt. The pioneer of electronic music and its live visualization, Steven Ellison a.k.a. Flying Lotus, is coming to Pohoda 2016.

Just like Thundercat, Flying Lotus comes from a family of acclaimed musicians (John and Alice Coltrane, Ravi Coltrane and Marilyn McLeod). FlyLo is a big fan of movies, comics and games. This taught him to interweave music with the stories and visual aspects of his work. According to Pitchfork, each of his albums “seems to start with a personal connection that's grown more all-encompassing the further he gets into his career.” They sum up his work as follows: “From his year of birth (1984), he moved on to the city he found his musical identity in (Los Angeles), then out to the very structure of the universe (Cosmogramma), then deeper inside to the inner world of dreams and the subconscious (Until the Quiet Comes).” Per his own words, Lotus's latest album You're Dead! “emulates the voyage of the spirit after death itself.”
In 2008, he launched his own label, Brainfeeder, with signed artists such as Thundercat, Mr. Oizo, Taylor McFerrin and more. Towards the end of 2012, he revealed that the animated character of Captain Murphy is his alter ego. Besides working on his own albums, he prepared a radio station in the video game Grand Theft Auto V, remixed Radiohead music and produced tracks for Kendrick Lamar and Erykah Badu. Apart from progressive electronic music, FlyLo's live performances have an amazing visual experience to offer. His current show offers real 3D effects without 3D glasses. This is achieved with the use of HyperCube that surrounds him on the stage. Last summer, he received rave reviews for his performances at Bonnaroo, Coachella and Glastonbury festivals. We're looking forward to the reviews of his show at the 20th edition of Pohoda.
