Obviously, he is very successful with reaching his objectives. According to the Metro Times, he was the artist of the year 2013; his albums have featured Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. A man of contradictions and a jeans-wearing Detroit rapper with a high-pitched voice, inspired by the sound of Joy Divison and Talking Heads. Danny began his career as a member of the band Rese'vor Dogs. In 2010 he released his debut album The Hybrid, and this is where he began to use his high-pitched voice that became his “trademark”. In 2011, Q-Tip recommended the label Foolʼs Gold Records managed by A-Track to cooperate with Danny Brown. Shortly afterwards, he recorded the album XXX, which Spin described as the best hip-hop recording of the year. Pitchfork named it the 19th best album in its selection of the top 100 albums (with no genre distinction). The album was also handled for the first time by the Brownʼs longtime producer Paul White, who also worked for Charlie XCX and Jamie Woon. A year later, he collaborated with The Avalanches on a Frank Sinatraʼs song. At that time he released the hit “Grown Up”, which Rolling Stone named the 41st best song of the year. He was awarded the Woodie Award for the video to the song.
In October 2013, he released the album Old, which featured ASAP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Charli XCX, and Purity Ring. The album reached number 13 on the American Billboard 200 hit chart. A few months later, he appeared in the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show together with Megan James. In July 2015, he opened in front of 100 000 for Eminemʼs concert at Wembley Stadium. Last year he released the latest album Atrocity Exhibition, which was shortlisted by IMPALA for the album of the year. He was also included in the top 20 albums of the year in the yearly selections of media such as The Guardian, NME, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Spin. The album includes hits such as “When It Rain”, “Pneumonia” and “Really Doe”. The latter one features other star rappers Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Earl Sweatshirt.
The Guardian described him as one of the greatest pleasures of the contemporary music, and Pitchfork said he was an hilariously funny and infinitely creative rapper. Sings such as Dip, Grown Up, Really Doe, and 25 Bucks are good examples, and his live performances prove that. Danny Brown will present his unconventional approach to the dominating North American genre of the last three decades also to the visitors of Pohoda 2018.
