Dakh Daughters

Dakh Daughters

Seven young girls, fifteen musical instruments, unbelievable combination of various sounds, and make up as they used to use in silent movies. However be careful not to get deaf from this silent movie, as Dakh Daughters are bringing you a generous portion of Ukrainian music always nicely packed with a small theatre performance.

Theatre is in this band's genes. Dakh Daughters are “children” of the famous Kiev DAKH Center for Contemporary Arts. The band was formed in 2012 during preparations for Paris performances. After a few weeks they showed their ideas to the director of the theatre, Vlad Troitsky, who called them “Freak Cabaret”. This unique genre of art allows the band to own the no man's land on the border between music and theatre, as this is exactly the place, where the young Ukrainians feel most comfortable – free from the rules, genre, or style. The label “freak” gives them unlimited freedom in their creative process, production, and even during the performance on the stage. Fifteen instruments travel in the hands of the young actresses and the actresses travel to their audience. Success with the Paris audience showed that Dakh Daughters are here to stay; they are not just a one-time theatre performance. The new project reaches beyond the theatre and unlike the music-only performers, just listening to Dakh Daughters is never enough.
