3rd edition of Doma dobre and 10 years of the Low threshold hostel of st. Vincent de Paul

Allstar Refjúdží Band, Vrbovskí víťazi, and Swingless Jazz Ensemble and their guests (Lasky, Vec, and Michal Kaščák) will play for the visitors of the third year of Doma dobre. On Sunday, 11 December, the low threshold dormitory of St. Vincent de Paul will hold also debates on topics related to homelessness, and there will be a birthday cake as well, as the hostel is celebrating its 10 years of existence. Besides the great experience, each visitor will receive a small souvenir. Admission to the concert is free, and your voluntary contribution will be used to support and help the homeless.

The event will start in the renovated part of the building at 1:00 pm with a photo exhibition that showcases 10 years of Depaul Slovakia. Films and videos about the activities of this NGO and the lives of homeless people will be screened as well. Concerts will alternate with debates with the people who deal with homelessness.

In the lobby, Swingless Jazz Ensemble will give their concert at 2 pm (with their guests – Lasky, Vec, and Michal Kaščák). The big band was established back in 1999 as a school jazz ensemble that offers an opportunity to play to promising students. Their repertoire contains, in addition to the traditional big band classics, the arrangements of Latin American music, musical songs, and even rock hits. The 16 musicians and singer are the guarantee of a full and robust sound. “Ako najlepšie viem” (song) by Para, “Branči Kováč” by Vec, and “Mäso” by Lasica and Filip and other delightful pieces will be performed in swing tune by Swingless Jazz Ensemble.

In 2000, the brothers Jobus founded the musical-working formation Vrbovskí víťazi. It is characterized by the use of non-standard, mostly brass, home-produced musical instruments, such as VVujary, Hajzel (Loo), Ropovod Družba (Oil Pipeline Družba), Výtrub (trumpet out), and Jreg. The universal industrial worker folklore music celebrates work in the standard language of the Vrbové area. At Pohoda 2016, they welcomed the Sun at five in the morning; at the time of their concert in the dormitory (3:15 pm), the Sun will be setting already—nevertheless, their music will bring a great atmosphere.

With Allstar Refjúdží Band, the term “world music” acquires a literal meaning, as this elemental band consists of musicians of different nationalities, religions, and attitudes. The band introduces energy packed, self-ironic, and sincere reflection on life in Central Europe through the eyes of foreigners. Their music comprises Kurdish folk and pop, Eastern European style accordion, Chinese opera and pop music, tunes from the Swiss mountains and cabarets, Dixieland, brass, rap, and other genres. Since their formation in 2008, they have played at the biggest festivals in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as in Pittsburgh, Warsaw, Berlin, Dresden, Rotterdam, The Hague, Haarlem, and many other cities. People who had to leave their home will play for people who do not have home as well as the rest of us at 4:15 pm.

Just the streets of Bratislava see about 4,000 homeless people every day. The low-threshold hostel services are used each year by more than 1,000 people. The employees of Depaul Slovakia take care of the homeless to provide them a warm place, food, and basic services no matter in what condition they come. Among other things, they get toiletries and, if interested, also social counselling and job search assistance. You can reach the hostel using public transport buses number 61 and 96. If you opt for the latter one, starting from the bus stop Fatruny, you can walk the way that hostel clients do every evening and morning.
