Bukahara at Pohoda 2019

Bukahara at Pohoda 2019

The sensation of the German folk scene, Bukahara, was one of two bands that couldn’t play a concert at last year's Pohoda due to injury of a band member. And it was a particularly anticipated concert. Their contagious joy of playing music and mixing genres combined with the instrumental maturity of musicians with academic education made the attenders of the last year's Pohoda Dňa_FM dance. The portal Quantara aptly wrote in an article titled Global Buskers: "Bukahara concert? That means, quite simply, an evening of pure pleasure." We believe that this time nothing will stop the band from bringing their musical joys to Pohoda 2019. → read more

The 1975 took over the Brit Awards 2019 with two victories

The 1975 became the most successful band of yesterday’s Brit Awards 2019 when they won in the main categories – the British Group of the Year and the Album of the Year. Their album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships left behind recordings by Florence + The Machine and George Ezra. As for the bands, they dominated in the competition of Arctic Monkeys and Gorillaz. The band also performed on stage during the gala with "Sincerity Is Scary" from their latest album. Shortly after releasing the extraordinarily successful A Brief Inquiry, Into Online Relations, the 1975 are preparing the release of another album – Notes on a Conditional Form is planned for the end of May and the Pohoda 2019 attenders will probably be among the first ones to hear it live. → read more

BaBa ZuLa – psychedelic-oriental rock'n'roll from Istanbul

BaBa ZuLa – psychedelic-oriental rock'n'roll from Istanbul

The Trenčín airport will also host BaBa ZuLa and their Istanbul psychedelic rock'n'roll. They create unusual combination of psychedelia, reggae, electronica and dub combining traditional (and non-traditional) Turkish instruments. Their show is a breath taking display of different kinds of art, when on stage, apart from original music, you can see a belly dancer, poetry, theatre or live drawing. The audience thus experience an eccentric audio-visual celebration. Culture Trip has ranked them among the top 10 artists from Turkey that you should know and The Guardian gave their Do Not Obey album (2016) four stars out of five. After festivals such as Roskilde, Printemps de Bourge or Venice Biennale, Pohoda 2019 attenders will also get a chance to see BaBa ZuLa. → read more

IC3PEAK – mesmerizing pop glitch from Moscow

IC3PEAK – mesmerizing pop glitch from Moscow

The Moscow electronic duo IC3PEAK will also perform at Pohoda 2019. In 2017, they won an award in the electronic music category at the independent music awards, Jager Music Awards, and the best experimental project of the year award at the Golden Gargoyle Awards. They've toured the whole world and their videos have tens of millions of views on YouTube. However, one of them (video for the song "Death No More") caused that the hitherto exceptionally successful band caught the attention of the Russian security services. Several concerts were cancelled and the band members themselves were detained by the police. The story of the band linked to an alleged "blacklist of unwanted music" was reported by media such as The Guardian, The Independet, BBC, NPR, and Arte. Their combination of the genres witch house, trap and glitch pop will be also presented at the airport of Trenčín. → read more

Vitalic LIVE at Pohoda 2019

Vitalic LIVE at Pohoda 2019

Pohoda 2019 will also feature the French electronic music producer Pascal Arbez Nicolas known as Vitalic. Pitchfork compared the quality of his debut, OK Cowboy, to Daft Punk’s Homework or Discovery. In addition to creative music, he won his fans over with live performances which are always enhanced by a great visual aspect, as in the case of the impressive "V Mirror" live show (he’s surrounded by huge electronic mirror panels). In 20 weeks, the author of the catchy tracks "Poison Lips", "Poney Pt. 1 "or" La Rock 01" will present himself in the LIVE version to Slovak fans. → read more

Natalie Sharp (Lone Taxidermist) is coming to Pohoda with project BodyVice

Pohoda 2019 will also see an eccentric UK artist Natalie Sharp (Lone Taxidermist) with her new project BodyVice. According to Noisey, Natalie creates “skewed glam electro pop with a disconcerting and psychedelic edge” and The Quietus describes her approach as “(a)n unholy amalgamation of Grace Jones, Ari Up and John Cooper Clarke with diva-esque wails and jarring harmonies”.  Natalie is an accomplished sound & stage designer, performance artist and make-up artist, or rather, a high-end body painter whose design practices converge around sound and the body in the new project. She describes BodyVice as follows: “Your body is a sensory device, each sense can be manipulated / modulated and played like an instrument. You are both superhuman and human-synthesis. The layers of your anatomy come to represent a process or modulation of how you can be played.” → read more

Lola Marsh to open Pohoda 2019 program on the main stage

Lola Marsh to open Pohoda 2019 program on the main stage

A musical love at first sound: that’s how we could describe the relationship between Pohoda, its visitors and the band from Israel, Lola Marsh. As an unknown band, they played our main stage during their Slovak premiere in 2014. The chemistry worked right away. A tour, several solo concerts as well as other gigs at Pohoda followed. A year ago, they played their biggest show in the Refinery Gallery with a special addition to their setlist: an unforgettable cover version of “Čerešne” that 1,500 deeply moved people sang along with Yael. Since their premiere, Lola Marsh played Slovakia every single year and, this time, it won’t be otherwise. On Thursday evening, they will open the program on Pohoda 2019’s main stage. → read more
