Maruja

Maruja GB

The British band Maruja is already being hailed as the next big festival headliner. This Manchester-based four-piece fuses heavy guitars with jazzy saxophone and almost rap-like vocals. According to music critics – and us – they’re a must-see act right now. And there’s no better place to experience them than at Pohoda 2025.

If you’re into the musical landscapes of Black Midi, Black Country, New Road, Opus Kink, or Fat Dog, you should definitely add Maruja to your playlists. Their music is built largely on improvisation, with lyrics shaped by life in their hometown of Manchester – a city the band sees as declining after its former glory.

Their debut EP Knocknarea received glowing reviews from outlets such as NME and BBC Radio 6. Music critic Anthony Fantano described it as: “Great performances, edge-of-your-seat spoken word passages, intensely dynamic guitar and saxophone parts – simply fantastic.”

Maruja performed at Glastonbury this year on a stage curated by BBC Music, with the tagline: “Come and witness future festival headliners.” We couldn’t agree more – and we’re inviting you to see them at Trenčín Airport.
