Five reasons to spend Saturdays in Trenčia Garage

Five reasons to spend Saturdays in Trenčia Garage

Garage, the smallest stage of the Pohoda festival, anchored in Trenčín for the fourth time. In August, it brings three Saturdays full of promising Slovak music and an interesting accompanying program for adults and children. Read on for five reasons to be there (besides the fact that entry is free).

16. August 2024

Something new

Twenty young Slovak bands, which will fill the space at the Cultural and Creative Center Hviezda in Trenčín, were chosen by an expert jury from 214 applicants. The experts were surprised by the quality and quantity of formations that are being created in our small country. Come and discover them.

Saturdays in the Garage will offer a varied mix of musical styles, from guitar songs to more pop electronic projects to harder genres. Among them you will also find well-known names such as Charmsové deti with Matúš O (17.8.), SJU (24.8.) or Vanessa Weisz (31.8.). Faces from the Trenčín region were also represented in the twenty bands. In addition to Matúš O, Katarina Marosi from Považská Bystice will also perform on the first Saturday. Some Hope from Nová Dubnica (24.8.) and Laura Magičová and band from Nové Mest nad Váhom (31.8.) will come. You can get to know and listen to all the bands now at www.trencin2026.sk/en/garaz

In addition, thanks to the Norwegian funds, the Garage will also have an international character. On the last Saturday, August 31, the band Defusion from Bodø, Norway, which is this year's European Capital of Culture, will play. Two bands from Garage (Vanessa Weisz and Grayhole) also played in Bodø at the UKM festival, and people from UKM will come to Trenčín to see more.

Something unexpected

Do you want to experience something extraordinary? The second Saturday in Garáž (24 August) will offer video mapping – a projection on the wall of KKC Hviezda by visual and digital designer Diana Randjaková. If you like to be actively involved, on this day you will dive into the secrets of DJing. Three workshops will gradually reveal what mixing music involves - from an introduction to styles, instruments and sound, through programs for mixing, working with sound, to practical work at the desks.

Something special for children too

Garage represents the next generation of bands and does not want to miss the next generation of the audience. Every Saturday, children and young people can find something for themselves there. At the first event (August 17th) they will be able to try playing with vegetables, and at the second event (August 24th) they will be able to create visually. Under the guidance of Trenčín artist Petr Štuller, they will make graffiti in their own style on the bag. The last garage Saturday (August 31) will bring Break dance and Hip Hop workshops for younger children and teenagers.

Something for music connoisseurs

Music lovers will be able to test their strength in a music quiz (August 17). Music industry in Trenčín (August 24 and 31) will present short and lively presentations about the work of people from the music industry from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. During all three days, a record bazaar is also prepared for you, there is no better and more practical souvenir from the Garage. If music is not only your hobby but also your job, join the closed focus groups on the topic of young music and its support. If interested, write to katarina.rozvadska@trencin2026.eu

Something comfortable

Garage events are a great place for August meetings with friends. Entry is free, it's worth coming just to sit or play table football. In addition, you can enjoy the program and like the young band, as if by chance. After all, summer is also about allowing ourselves to experience something that we might not even have planned.

About the Garage project

The garage is part of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 and is created in cooperation with the Pohoda festival. This year, Garáž z Pohoda found its summer home at KKC Hviezda in Trenčín and acquired an international dimension thanks to Norwegian funds. Its aim is to create opportunities for up-and-coming bands, male and female musicians to present themselves, network and learn. The bands will present their music during three Saturdays in the Garage in Trenčín and, in addition, they will also participate in an educational block with experts from the music industry. You can find more about the project at www.trencin2026.eu/garaz.

Trenčín 2026 is financially supported by the city of Trenčín, the Trenčín self-governing region and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The project partner is the European Union.
