Harlem rapper FERG, known for his innovative approach to music, blends aggressive beats, melodic choruses, and creative storytelling. A founding member of the iconic rap collective A$AP Mob, FERG has become its brightest star. At Pohoda, he’ll perform not only his classic hits but also showcase his latest work.
FERG’s debut album, Trap Lord (2013), skyrocketed him to the top of the rap scene with hits like Work REMIX (feat. A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Trinidad James & ScHoolboy Q) and Shabba (feat. A$AP Rocky). That same year, he made waves by winning the Rookie of the Year award at the BET Hip Hop Awards.
A$AP, which stands for Always Strive and Prosper, is not just a name but a guiding motto that has shaped FERG’s life and career. His second studio album, Always Strive and Prosper (2016), carries the same name and, like his debut, landed in the top ten of the music charts. Throughout his career, FERG has collaborated with stars such as Future (“New Level”), Nicki Minaj (“Plain Jane REMIX”), Skrillex, and Pharrell Williams (“Green Juice”).
FERG, whose real name is Darold Durard Brown Ferguson Jr., is not just a musician but also a fashion enthusiast. He founded a clothing brand known for its extravagant, colourful, and streetwear-inspired style. His father, who owned a small shop in Harlem printing T-shirts and logos for record labels like Bad Boy Records and artists such as Teddy Riley, Heavy D, and Bell Biv DeVoe, served as an inspiration for his foray into fashion.
This November, FERG released his third full-length studio album after nearly ten years. It features a mix of veteran artists like Mary J. Blige and Denzel Curry, as well as rising stars like Coco Jones. The album offers a rich musical experience, drawing on influences from boom trap, neo-soul, contemporary R&B, hardcore hip-hop, and the New York drill scene. The record Darold is proof that FERG still has much to say, and his influence on the hip-hop scene remains immense.
